Re: [MOD] HISTORICAL ROSTER
This is great! I didn't have the ability to edit the image files. How do I install this mod?

Re: least missions to moon
Are the Goal Boosts listed in MsnCnfgs-I implemented in the game? I don't remember them when rummaging through the game files. Thanks.

Data files
I'm trying to understand the data files. Can someone explain how RDDifficultyFactor and/or RDLevelMaxAmount in MissionComponents.xml are used in the seasonal R&D computation? Thanks.

Re: Beginner Player Guides?
I learned a lot about the game by digging through XML files. I'll try to spare you the pain. Minimum requirements: To unlock lunar manned missions, you must launch an Earth satellite. That will unlock Moon probes. A successful Moon probe will unlock manned lunar missions. Timetable: I find following...

Re: How does R&D work?
So I figured it out. The game takes a weighted sum of the 4 skills: f(skill) = 1 - (k1*skill1 + k2*skill2 + k3*skill3 + k4*skill4) Easy to research components have weights like (0.25, 0.18, 0.12, 0.04) for Explorer 1. The Saturn V in comparison is (0.05, 0.04, 0.02, 0.01), or about 5 times longer to...

Has anyone created similar lists for SET and flight controllers? Thanks.

Re: Using BASPM as a teaching tool-An AAR
Comments: 1) Playing 2 seasons per day means the students will play a 1955 - 1969 game in a little over 2 weeks. As this is described as a semester course, that means they will play more than 2 games. 2) The first post does not describe how your AAR is going to be used in the class. Is this somethin...

How does R&D work?
So this is something that's confused me for a while: how does R&D work? It's clear that it follows the exponential progression max R&D - new reliability = f(skills) (max R&D - current reliability) where f(skills) a function of the SET skills between 0 and 1 (0 = reliability rises to max ...

Re: Mission step success chance?
FYI, even though the flight crew UI displays the Leadership skill (looks like a crown), that is not the only skill the crew will need. I dug into the XML files, and at least for Mercury and Gemini, Piloting and Fitness are as important if not more so. The Pilot crew in Gemini doesn't even use Leader...

DSM achievement
I was trying to get the Distinguished Service Medal achievement. Played USA Sandbox on Normal, landed a Gemini Direct Ascent on 1969.2, but achievement didn't trigger. Maybe it has to be in USA Campaign?

Re: Flight controller slot skills in XML files
So in General Container\MsnCnfg27-00.xml we can find
MissionControlLayoutID='MC-MERCURY_UNCREWED' FlightCrewLayoutID='FC-NONE'
which gives the LayoutID's for the mission, but I can't find a file listing which slot uses which skill.

Flight controller slot skills in XML files
I'm in a file like Mission Simulations Container\Program Category 27 Container\MsnSim27-00-01-01.xml . It gives the SlotID for the flight controllers involved in each step, but I'm having a hard time finding the file that describes what skill each slot uses. Can someone point me to what file contain...

Re: Status of the game
News that NASA is planning a manned mission to Mars in the 2030's reminded me of BASPM stage 2 and 3. Logged into the forum to only to see this news. Sorry to hear that, especially since one of the early posts mentioned that Buzz wanted a Mars game to demonstrate why his Mars Cycler idea is the way ...

For the 2nd 4-year cycle, skip the X15 and just do the 1-man capsule. Put probes on pause after you get the lunar probe to unlock lunar manned missions.

Re: Not Enough Feedback/Information
Also, I've just started flying manned missions, and both suborbitals I've flown have failed. No explanation whatsoever, and I no longer see those astronauts available for future launches--I'd like to know what went wrong with the missions, please! I was packing off to bed so I didn't check to see i...

Re: (SUGGESTION) The Abort button! tm
It would be realistic to have some limited ability to change the mission sequence (not in the middle of launch or re-entry since there's no time). See Apollo 13 scrapping the moon landing and turning it into a lunar flyby. I believe shuttle missions had some flexibility depending on astronaut health...

Re: Not Enough Feedback/Information
Eh, BARIS showed the die roll. While it was tense watching that bar inch up and up, really hoping that you didn't roll above your reliability, I think it slightly breaks immersion to show the die roll. (On the other hand, showing the die roll helps explain to the player the game mechanics so they kn...
