Re: contradictious rules?

Ha! I used that joke at home...my wife managed to scratch her eyeball and we had to improvise a patch for a couple of days.

Re: What is this orb thingy again?

True. Pondering that makes me wonder whether there should be another restriction on orb that it can't be formed unless there is at least a 1 base wide gap either side. It would stop orb being used in a solid line, achieving that near-invulnerability to missile fire in a rather gamey way. Then you wo...

Re: What is this orb thingy again?

And just why does there seem to be an assumption that Orb shouldn't be a good formationin which to resist bow-fire? Battle of Falkirk 1298. Scottish circular schiltron shot to pieces by longbows That's a general weakness of Scots spearmen vs. longbows, not necessarily to do with a specific formatio...

Re: how important are base depths?

There are a number of areas in which depth can make a difference (or rather the ration of depth to width) e.g. you have 2 BGs in front, 1 in the middle behind them. You wheel the two fron BGs outwards and hope to allow room for the one behind to come through the gap. The deeper the bases, the furthe...

Re: morale question

Err, disagree. I guess this is another of those things like the classic "at least partially to the rear" barney we had 6 months or so ago that *could* be read in multiple ways, but it seems to me there is a more natural way and a less natural way. If they wanted it to be only the shot-at b...

Re: Principate Roman Auxilia

I'm of the opinion that there was was some perceived difference between Auxilia and Legiones. Otherwise why bother to make the distinction, and reatint hat distinctikonm so strongly for hundreds of years? Whether it was a difference that would be significant in the terms of how they would be represe...

This isn't exactly new :) RJC has been complaining about scythed chariots being able to count for rear support for probably 4 years now, i.e. as long as I have been involved with FoG. and perhpas longer!

Re: Thirty-Five - Nil Scoring

If you want a competition where the overly competitive big boys kick all the rabbits into a separate competition beginning with round 2, why not just hold separate competitions, and instead of playing round 1 have some additional quality drinking time? ;)

Re: Ambushing: Anyone do it?

Or vice versa, LF in ambush out on a flank being approached by MF, you want to ensure the MF are taken away from the rest of the battle for as long as possible, so don't let him know until you absolutely have to that it is only LF that are hiding.

The front ones I think might be Minifigs...they were the first figures I bought, back in the early 80's.

Re: ZOI-1

Yup. I think it can be argued either way, "bases are over-depth etc." is a valid comment - but apart from anything else it would be easier to remember the rules if different parts of them were consistent with one another.
