Re: Online game ends ... And disappears!

Yeah it was weird, I thought I should have won since he couldn't do much and passed so I passed afterwards, thinking the +1 VP I'd get would for the points I had at the end of the game would make me win the game. I coulda won if I continued to play and took another point but I didn't know they don'...

Re: Online game ends ... And disappears!

A few more details ... Under Extras > Gameplay Statistics > Show it lists "29" under turns in the "vs Game Center Opponents" section, so the turns I took during the game have been tracked, but Win, Loss and Draw area all 0, and my rating is still 1500. The Game Center App shows m...

Online game ends ... And disappears!

Just finished my first online game ... Playing as the Soviets in Typhoon, the game ended when turn five ended during the German players turn. I received a Game Center alert saying "Allied Victory with 12 victory points!" However, when I tapped the alert and was brought into the game I was ...

Re: iOS 7 only

Updating Bulge and still supporting the people who bought it on their first-generation iPad would not be a simple proposition. Understood, and as much as I'd like to see it updated, focus of efforts on bug fixes and new games should certainly be a priority. Having said that, the additions in DoM th...

Re: iOS 7 only

The people upset over "iOS 7 only" will dominate the conversation about the choice, so I wanted to chime in with praise for the decision. The enhanced game center features made available by iOS 7 will greatly enhance my enjoyment of the game, and I thank Shenandoah for having the boldness ...

Re: Stategies for a German turtle

I'll cross post my reply from Qt3 as well... No apology necessary at all Scott. I was the one being bullheaded before doing the research. I've always had a reflexive disdain for the idea of changing rules before enough varied play time has been but in, but I see now you guys have certainly done due ...

Re: Stategies for a German turtle

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Jamus. I have to admit, given the difficulty in trying to create testable mid-game situations in games against myself, I've given up the quest for a way to stop the turtle (other than outright winning as the Allies before it can be formed). I spent quite a bit of tim...

Re: Play balance

Let me pose a hypothetical question: if players were bidding for sides would that make experienced Axis players think hard before turtling (making it something rare); or would bidding encourage it? I'd have to think more about the answer to your question, but I do think incorporating VP bidding int...

Re: Play balance

After all, the "real life" Allies didn't lose Bastogne ... Maybe that's how they beat the turtle! The Allies beat the turtle by holding St. Vith until the 21st. I agree that if you are able to do this as the Allies, you will beat the turtle as well. Hahaha ... the real life Allies obvious...

Re: Stategies for a German turtle

When I try to hold on to Bastogne I also try to hold on to Arlon to force the Axis to split his southern forces. Again, if he wants to divert all his armor south to get both Arlon and Bastogne before the reinforcement comes in, I should be able to take advantage of that in the north. Personally, an...

Re: Play balance

A repost from the strategy thread... I will admit, it is really difficult to discuss mid-game strategies because it is hard to create repeatable, specific, mid-game strategies from the multitude of possibilities that can be seen in the first few turns ... even when we try to limit the discussion by ...

Re: Stategies for a German turtle

d I am discussing it, but it has its own internal contradiction. An Axis player determined to turtle must take Bastogne[*]. In the absense of bad luck, any skilled Axis player determined to take Bastogne will take Bastogne regardless of what the Allied player does. Therefore you can't stop the turt...

Re: Play balance

Bruce's article does a great job of demonstrating that the combat rules necessary to balance the game in the first 6 days, render the game unbalanced in the last 6. I think Bruce's article does a fantastic job of showing that, given the way the game is currently structured, the turtle defense is es...

Re: Stategies for a German turtle

For that reason, I tend to divert forces north rather than try to hold Bastogne. If the Axis player doesn't make a determined attempt at it, I'm happy to keep it, of course. But I'd rather defend the direct line to the Meuse, Verviers, Spa, and Eupen. I don't think anyone would disagree that what y...

Re: Play balance

I understand this thread is full of experienced players who have already made up their mind. I hope they'll humor me ... at the very worst, we'll end up with even more evidence in support of their case. And when I lose in the final match of the Qt3 tournament to an opponent who expertly deploys the ...

Re: Play balance

If you think the problem is that these players all don't know how to play as the Allies, join the next tournament. ;^) I did enter the 64-player "Official QtT/Shenandoah Studio sponsored Battle of the Bulge Tournament" over on the "Quarter to Three" web site. I'm in the finals, ...

Re: Play balance

Is there something else he's written that I've missed that is more of a "concurrence" regarding imbalance? Well, he wrote this: *We did play the game A LOT before shipping, with a large number of energetic and capable testers. As you point out, strategies and counters evolve. I've probabl...

Re: Stategies for a German turtle

Yoji, I have the feeling that you are on to something with respect to Bastogne being the key to preventing/defeating the turtle (if it is possible), and I posted some thoughts about it in the other thread. It seems the common strategy is for the allied player to attempt to deny the German player Bas...

Re: Play balance

Thanks for the post Nick. After participating in this discussion only recently, I've grown convinced that the if the Germans form the turtle, the game becomes a drag and difficult for the Allies. However, I'm not quite ready to shed my stubborn belief that more can be done by the Allied player prior...
