Sokolov sumerises the use of skirmisher companies and light infantry like this in 1811 from Davouts instructions: "not only the voltigeurs but all the companies must be trained to fight as skirmishers. To help the voltigeurs the battalions should send companies of line. " It seems there i...

Re: FOGN 2nd Edition
i think it would be good to make a forum "by topic"
meaning :
topic "squares"
topic "skirmishers"
topic "artilery"
etc
it would make discussions more readable

Re: FOGN 2nd Edition
Concerning prolong , i just read the Sokolov's book chapter on artillery tactics : it seems to me that the way we treat the artillery moves are quite conservative, the french army still used the ancien regime drill book but was very flexicible and usualy did not do it "by the book" Basical...

Rear and flank Support rules: should be in one paragraph Support fire : not clear ...especialy strange things can happen when a unit charges along several ennemy units , and gets no fire from that ennemy because out of support fire range Buildings should be simpler rules and more difficult to take ....

Austrian Mass battalions : that formation had a special effect against Cavalry could we not make that formation type into account for the game, Squares a square was used to defend against cavalery into the open, yet it was also used in other circumstances like the attack of the middle guard at Water...

Re: FOGN 2nd Edition
Lancers: why do lancers only have a bonus against infantry ? clearly there is a reason the lance was used, ..it does give a greater reach in impact. the lance was abandonned in renaissance because of a change in tactics because of the use of pistols. They come back in Napoleonic times because shock ...

Re: FOGN 2nd Edition
problems i feel in the game: artillery : prolong move, i do not think it is very realistic it is okay in a tactical game or skirmish, not for the scale of FogN : distance moved is to big, and i have serious doubts about that move on the battlefield. Are there examples of prolong moves other than anc...

shifting to conform
hello, a unit that shifts to conform can if necessary "push" friendly units to make enough space to conform to its opponent. does that mean thath if there is one unit to be pushed but that there is a "domino effect?" : unit A has to conform will it push unit 1, 2 and 3 ? unit3 - ...

1st rout move
Hello,
unit 1 is in melee to its front.
unit 1 is charged on its flank and breaks.
how does it do its first break move?
1.- it moves away from the charging unit in the opposite direction of the charge?
2.- it bisects its rout move between the charger and the unit it is in melee with?
thank you

Re: Siege Battles
9 Defenders can get burning oil over a gateway or in pots along the walls. Over a gateway oil is three dice at + POA against all troops beneath it, pots on the walls are 2 dice at + POA this is to much...forget burning oil, boiled water yes...oil was very rarely used, way to expensive, most used wat...
