Version 10 release tournament
When I read the release notes for Version 10, I was pleased to see that the problem with restarting the turn replay had been resolved and now I see that the way it has been resolved is by making it impossible to restart the replay... really??? Is that the best that could be done?
Re: Version 10 release tournament
I suspect something's wrong with the scoring on round 1. Netballman was in 5th place with 217 points. Later, I saw that he was in 4th place, but I don't remember how many points he had. Now, he's listed as only having 180 pts for round 1. His match timed out, but he should have ended up with more points than 180 and he shouldn't have been penalized for the timed-out session. Could it be that the new ranking system threw a spanner in the works of the point calculation program? I have a quid riding on Netballman getting in the top 4 in round 1, and if this doesn't get straightened out then my gran is going to have to go without her medication this month.

Many thanks to Redbird for beating me to flagging this. Notwithstanding his betting issuesRedbird wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 3:50 pm I suspect something's wrong with the scoring on round 1. And I was so looking forward to tilting at the Admiral....

Re: Version 10 release tournament
so i have to play against the admiral... i don't like to do it very much:
1. i can keep up with everyone except the admiral and Pinkelephantis, they are 1-2 classes better than me
2. the admiral also plays very slowly, at least that's what I've observed against others and I suspect so

Ah don't underestimate yourself, just get in there and give him hell!rth wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 6:44 pm so i have to play against the admiral... i don't like to do it very much:

The admiral always seems to get his games finished so I can't agree with the slow play comment.
However, I've effectively been docked 50-odd points because my opponent was a little slow in taking his turns, and did not quite get the game finished. This is a big percentage and enough to make a very significant impact not on just this round but overall final placing. Seriously, does that seem a right and proper way for the system to work?

Re: Version 10 release tournament
So my first round opponent was a no-show. It is not the first time it has happened and it will not be the last. I know it is also frustrating when you don't get a chance to finish, esp if about to take an HQ at the end.
There is no foolproof solution to what is essentially the problem of human folly but I think invitational tournaments are the only reliable way to minimize these problems.
If you concur feel free to post your head-nods

Re: Version 10 release tournament
I agree that Netballman was screwed by a glitch in the automatic scoring system. The designers have to get this fixed. it is just a matter of a simple if/then statement added to the program. If a player's natural score is greater than the default score, use the natural score, otherwise use the default score. Even it Netballman eventually gets back the points it still changed the pairings for everyone below them on the score board.
Sorry for the slow start rth. Sometimes play looks slow due to the time difference. I am in mid America so there is a 6 to 8 hour time difference between me and Europe. I still have a full time job so there are times when we cannot get more than one turn in a day.

when I wrote slowly, I didn't mean it negatively or as a criticism, but as a comparison to my playing speed, which I consider fast and sometimes thoughtless,
Yes, of course, real life always comes first and of course work too, I'm lucky enough to have a 4-day week, 3 of which I can spend in the home office

I understand now rth. Yes, I review the map very carefully and plan out a lot of things before I move a single unit.
I am working on going to a 4 day work week next year. I am looking forward to it.

Celeborn:
I guess there's a lot you can do to stay entertained with OoB!
But I concur in principle with Celeborn that we should have invitational tournaments, but I don't want the opens to go away.

I concur but we should still have the open tourneys to bring new players/competitors up. I find these tournaments the most interesting part of the game, over pick-up one-on-one, helping Erik's crew test new mp scenarios, designing scenarios and campaigns, playing user-developed single player stuff, and playing Artistocrat campaigns. There is no foolproof solution to what is essentially the problem of human folly but I think invitational tournaments are the only reliable way to minimize these problems.

Re: Version 10 release tournament
In May I went to a 4 day week (despite a 20% cut);and it was absolutely worth it. Barring financial problems I will likely drop another 20% in the Spring.

Re: Version 10 release tournament
Despite their warts open tournaments are probably the best way to recruit new players.
Also still hoping for 2v2 team tournament…

Re: Version 10 release tournament
Maybe have an open tournament where the devs could remove players that have already been marked as no-shows?
This penalty should be limited to 1 tournament.

Re: Version 10 release tournament
I just had a problem ending the round
previously wanted to buy a new unit,
was asked if a fallen with 30% experience should be replanted,
I denied that
because I first wanted to see where I can use the unit,
if you take an experienced one you can't sell her again,
if you change your mind at the last moment,
and the window if I experienced a 30%...kept coming back,
and I could click whatever I wanted
Ending the round was maybe only after I bought the experienced unit,
+ about 10 clicks end round
+ cirka 10 klicken Runde beenden
