The Prussian Heyday Round 4

Post by awesum4 »

Round 4 of the Campaign is The Battle of Minden in August of 1759. The Prussians are now part of an Alliance with Great Britain and various German States but the commander is the Prussian Field Marshal Ferdinand of Brunswick. The enemy is now the French under the Marshal of France, Matquis de Contades.

Again the Prussians (first player mentioned) set up the battle, using the password 1759

Doyley50 plays Dilly

Gribol plays W_Michael

We are happy to report the victory of the King of Prussia's allies over the coalition that unfairly attacked us.

The enemy cavalry, with a bold raid, wanted to surprise the English and Hessians who were slowly moving to new positions. Fortunately, they finally managed to slowly form a decent line and fire a few decent volleys at their opponents. Before the reinforcements of the French infantry arrived, the Redcoats managed to drink a good sip of tea and a snack of biscuit, and then calmly began firing again at the approaching opponents. The boys were probably quite tired and hungry after the all-day march and quickly got back on their feet.

This battle proves conclusively the superiority of tea and biscuits over coffee and croissants.

The forces of France have captured Minden after a long fought battle against a tenacious enemy.
He stood on the ridge and our main attack went in there slowly taking out his infantry and the cavalry he rushed up to support them.
His main line moved to the left and advanced and our left wing moved into the attack the flank of his line, which was forced to turn and fight against greater numbers.
Most of the fighting was done by the foot but our cavalry got behind his right flank and into the artillery.
A most interesting game that was even until 3 turns from the end.

The Allied forces have been surprised by the movement of the bulk of the French cavalry towards their right wing. Allied indecision allowed the French reinforcements to be placed in the center of the line and achieve superiority.
French victory.

If anyone sees Lord Sackville tell him he has been courtmartialed. He was invited to the hearing but he has a tendency not to keep his engagements.

Well played Andre, I felt I was playing catch up for a lot longer than just the last three turns.

The allied army has defeated the French in a long and hard fought battle in which each side saw their right flank collapse. The outcome of the fight was in doubt until the very end (58-60)
Great game thanks Dilly, so very close.

We are waiting for the result of the battle between Ironclad and LinkinBrick to complete the round.

After that we move onto the battle of Gravelotte in 1870.

It's been going relatively slow because there have been things going on. On my end at least I've had a funky deadline right before moving, so I've not been the fastest corespondent.

That said, you can rest assured that contact has been made and people are dying apace. We're at a very exciting point in the battle, in fact.

We will start round 5, as it doesn't depend on the outcome of the last battle.

I'll adjust the level of Prussian superiority after the result comes in. Currently it stands at 12 wins for Prussia to 7 wins for Austria/France

French valor has proved effective once again. With a well ordered and swift advance on the right, acompanied by plentiful cavalry, the French impact foot cut the dastardly Prussians down with gusto. The left advanced in a more delayed fashion to gather up its forces, but quickly gained an upper hand, if a somewhat questionable one, once contact was made.

WP to Ironclad.

So that was the best round for the Austrian/French so far with 3 wins to 2.

So the score is Prussians 12, Austrian/French 8.
