Rise and Fall of the Shun Dynasty Campaign
Re: Rise and Fall of the Shun Dynasty Campaign
I'm up for this but someone needs to tell me what faction and what army I'd be using.
Re: Rise and Fall of the Shun Dynasty Campaign
Okay, the part about attacking your own faction makes more sense now.GDod wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 9:22 pm Amendments
- The majority prefer "very large armies, wide terrain"
- Please re-read attacking your own faction. If challenger looses, they forfeit all provinces to the challenged. Previous versions had this the wrong way round.
- Corrected ownership of Beijing, which was incorrectly transposed on progress record.

- Okie may be joining us. Not yet confirmed. While the number of provinces each side will remain the same, province ownership may change slightly.

- You've been added as anti-Ming Okie. You may have to work a little harder with only one province

Re: Rise and Fall of the Shun Dynasty Campaign
Having breakfast this morning I was reading the "Today in History" column in the morning newspaper and what did I find ....
" 1644- Ming General Wu Sangui forms an alliance with the invading Manchus and opens the gates of the Great Wall of China at Shanhaiguan pass, letting the Manchus through towards the capital, Beijing "
Good timing of your Campaign Gavin

Re: Rise and Fall of the Shun Dynasty Campaign
I notice he never recovered his concubine, Chen Yuanyuan, and she " ...missed Wu Sangui to the point of physical and mental exhaustion".
However, I note he eventually double-crossed both of his masters, the Ming and the Qing dynasties! Food for thought, eh fybyyn?

Well, there was no Ming anymore when he defected to the Manchus. The Emperor was dead, Li Zicheng blocked his way and insisted on having him submitted or dead, and quite a few of his family and Liaodong fellows were already in the Manchu camp. Keeping a Ming loyalty to die crushed between two superior forces would have been foolish.
Re: Rise and Fall of the Shun Dynasty Campaign
I take your point. I should really have only included generals who defected to the Manchu's prior to 1634. However, Wu Sangui, Zu Dashou, and Hong Chengchou defected to the Qing after Li Yongfang's short lived Shun Dynasty and death in 1634. Hence, they belong in the Anti-Ming camp despite Wu Sangui's enmity against Li.Changdao wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 9:24 am Well, there was no Ming anymore when he defected to the Manchus. Yes, I'm fine with them being anti-Ming. Wu Sangui is still the arch-defector of the period so it would have been strange to leave him outGDod wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2024 11:56 pmI take your point.
