Protected Foot

Post by LambertSimnel »

I see from the definition of protection that it isn't just pike and shot that can be protected. But while there a host of benefits to being protected shot or protected pike, I don't see what other foot get from being protected. What am I missing?

1) Enemy mounted don't get +1 POA at impact against Protected MF.
2) A mixed BG of HF and MF counts as HF for CT purposes, so does not get -1 on the CT for losing against mounted in the open. (P.147 Mixed Battle Groups)

Don't forget the benefits of protected horse, determined horse and chevaliers when they are protected by commanded shot.

Protection: By File or by Bases??

Post by Blathergut »

In a Mixed BG of 4 shot + 2 pike, and 2 shot have been detached:

Does the remaining Mixed BG count as protected even though only the front pike base has shot to the sides?

Or does each pike base need a corresponding shot base beside it?

From my reading and memory I thought the protection was provided 'per file' i.e. to the touching files next to the element. So only a front base would be needed. But I may be wrong - will check later.

I have removed my prior post as, once again, it was wrong. Page 33, 3rd bullet. This specifically allows what you asked.
