I played the Ardennes scenario from start to finish. Took just about every city/town but still lost as the Germans. I hope the final version indicates what you have to do to win scenarios such as objectives or points for eliminating enemy units. Although there is a weather icon at the top left, the weather was clear and dry for the entire game. I know that historically this was not the case. For the first part of the battle the Allied airforces were grounded by the weather. The game itself is very abstracted and I will repeat my earlier comment that the maps all look the same. Difficult to tell one map from another unless you were to move your cursor over a city or river. In the Ardennes scenario, the map looks like summer as do all the other maps. Hopefully weather, such as snow will be shown visually in the initial release of the game. Will next try it multiplayer

I agree. the scenarios/campaigns need objectives. I don't know what the victory conditions are. i played the 1939 campaign, invasion of france three times. lost each time. i don't know what the required victory conditions are. How many points or cities or enemies do I have to kill? It would be nice if there were some objectives.

A few more thoughts after now having played about 7 games.

1. need clear indicator what objectives and victory conditions are. i'm sure they are there, but i couldn't find out what they were. what button do i press to see it?
2. aircraft warning indicator when fuel is low
3. what do the little combat indicators (-1, -3 etc) mean? i couldn't tell which combat modifier applied to me and which applied to the defender
4. weather? totally missed that. does it impact combat/movement a lot? wasnt obvious to me
5. didn't understand the difference between regular and elite reinforcements. couldn't tell if it impacted combat at all. i know elite costs more, but how does it improve the unit?
6. it would be nice if there was a warning indicator for all units that are out of fuel/ammo

agree

----projected losses

4. weather? totally missed that. does it impact combat/movement a lot? wasnt obvious to me

yes esp movement and air combat, or air ground

5. didn't understand the difference between regular and elite reinforcements. couldn't tell if it impacted combat at all. i know elite costs more, but how does it improve the unit?

always try for elite units when they gain experience--gaining it vitally important as the scen get tougher. they will hit harder and survive better

6. it would be nice if there was a warning indicator for all units that are out of fuel/ammo

agree

Based on the original Panzer General:

victory hexes will have a large whitish circle with points, looks kind of like the outside of a compass star, over the hex. To win you have to take all of them by the end of the game, miss one and you lose. They will usually have a flag at the bottom of them showing who owns them, although I some scenarios it seems at start of game they are blank and will change ownership when a valid unit ends its moves in the hex.
Infantry, tanks, Anti-Tank and recon can capture hexes. This might have changed but that is how it was originally.

Weather: rain/snow prevents air attacks. You can move but can't attack or be attacked by air or ground units. Viz is reduced to 1 hex I believe. Mud will slow units and might also reduce attack strengths. Frozen allows you to cross rivers as if they are open ground. Thats all I can think of.

The blue numbers showing on the enemy are their suppressed strength. They might be at 9 points but have -3 so fight as if they are at 6 strength. Suppression only lasts for the turn so next turn if they survive they will fight at their current strength.

Regular reinforcements will remove experience stars from your units when they reinforce. Elite reinforcements you keep your experience level, and any stars that you had. You can reinforce your units by 1 strength point per star to over strengthen a unit, so a unit with 3 stars can end up with a strength of 13, for example up to a maximum of 15 strength with 5 stars. A star must be full gold to allow a unit to be over strength.

Hope that helps you out to figure out the game mechanics :)
