I think he doesn't want to mod or edit the equipment file.

However you could write a tutorial, on how to add a unit. I would welcome it.
I thought I just did? Except for the default unit changes.

VPaulus, if he renames the units and doesn't change the "Bonus Unit" command or feature, he will have maybe six or seven of the same "unique" name on the battlefield given as BONUS UNITS. I had this happen to me until I realized that I didn't change the "Bonus Unit" to NON BONUS UNIT. You gotta make the unit unique otherwise the game will maybe give it to you at some point. I got to say that having six or seven Gross Deutschland Panther Battalions isn't a "bad thing" , but if you want them unique, you have to change them in the Equipment Editor.

If you want to use custom icons, they will not show up in the game unless you either replace the stock image graphics (NOT RECOMMENDED) OR duplicate and ADD a new unit, designate the specific custom icon in the graphics folder to this unit. Otherwise they just sit idle in the graphics folder. I learned this stuff the hard way, so I don't want someone getting too frustrated when it is pretty easy.

Seriously though VPaulus, tell me what you want and I will put something together.

Here is the link to download the Equipment Editor. It is an excellent tool for tweaking your units individually. With the Equipment Editor, the Scenario Editor and the Cheat Codes available, there ought to be most anything possible in the game. I made three sets of equipment/graphics to play with. The original with added graphic icons and two "tweaked" equipment files for "hi power fighting" and "steam roller fighting". All I do is pull one in a game or scenario and plug another in. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This prevents mental lapses, distractions and brain farts from screwing up your original game files.

The links for the skins and icons are in this thread. I am not sure which file you are referring to, but I assume it is the Equipment Editor. When you download it on your computer, just make a shortcut to the desktop from the actual startup.

First of all congratulations. Wonderful job!
I have a question.
How can I have 4 different types of camouflage for the missions in different seasons (in the original campaign, also in DLCs)?
Danke!

In that case, only by using GME, and manually activate the proper camouflage set before starting to play each different seasonal scenario.
IF you want to do it automatically, in which the games choose the camouflage according to the season, I'm afraid that won't be possible.

Alles klar VPaulus. I will try and let you know what happened. Does the package also include all of the DLCs units?

Remember that you've to change the filename of each unit to the correspondent original unit. Otherwise GME will not replace the original units with the new ones.

DLC, so far, don't have much more new units. So you can play with DLCs.

UPDATED CAMOUFLAGE ICON LINK

Post by flakfernrohr »

Hello Panzer drivers. Rezaf recently went above and beyond the call of duty for all of us again. He revamped and made his icon software even better. He told me what he did but I got lost somewhere along the path.

He was not really satisfied with the first batch of icons we all got from this thread, so he made a new batch with the same skins. This time the icons are more finely tuned, they look even better, the open top armor and vehicles no longer have camouflage inside, the skirts on Stugs and PzIV, etc. no longer have camouflage on the inside of the skirts. The icons just are better and he is right. I was satisfied with the old ones, but he's always raising his own bar. There are also some new icons that have come to us from the generous hands of Bebro and others that are in this group. The Brumbar and the PzIV L/70 (A) - Alkett version are two that come to mind.

We are working on some new camouflage skins and I am trying with Rezaf's guidance to make my patterns even more finely detailed, etc. I know that a number of the icons from the first batch had what appeared to be wild colors, BUT, I did the research for each one and got the colors from chips from a guide on German Camouflage in WWII. Of course in real life the colors would look different due to wear and battle damage, sun damage, dirt, etc. And we only have black and white photos of some vehicles and armor. But even though there were a great number of German camouflage patterns, they all revolved around only three basic colors. The paint for most vehicles and armor was done in the field and diluted with gasoline according to whatever tone the crew wanted to do. The Hetzers were all painted in a uniform camouflage pattern in the factory. I have not been able to duplicate it yet. Ambush camouflage was also usually done at the factory. So we are using some patterns with artistic freedom here.

Obviously there are some vehicles and panzers that look bad in some camouflage colors and patterns. The size and shape usually decides that fact. Stugs, PzIV, Brumbar, Hummel, Opel Blitz, SDKFZ 250-251's all look pretty realistic in one of the swirl or squiggle patterns because you will see a number of real vehicles and Panzers painted like this in photos. Also the Panthers used it often. But a Tiger I and Tiger II and JagdTiger does not look very good in the color pattern. Conversely hardline block type camouflage looks better on larger armor like a Tiger or Maus or Panther, maybe not a PzIII. So there you are. You have a number of choices and even if you don't like most of them, there are surely several that will suffice for you in the battles you want to fight. :D

Very cool, thanks for providing all those. My favourite patterns are ambush, swirl, the various squiggles and the Tiger1 and Tiger1_choice.

Ok so if im to understand this, to make these work in-game, I have to go into unit equipment editor? Unlike the other mods I have that just need to be put in the GME?

The png's just need to be re-labeled

IE:
The vanilla png for the Elefant is:

Elefant.png

The Ambush Camo that Flak and Rezaf made is labeled Elefant_Ambush_Camo.png,,so you would have to re-label the "new" png to match the old and overwrite the old skins for the skins to take affect.
. Which is very easy to do.

Of course make back up's of the vanilla Feld skins so you can use them again later.

I dunno if you could relabel them in a seperate folder and use the GME to enable the skins. I personally have never tried it, If you do that, the new file directory for the skins has to match the games.

The other way is to make a whole new unit in the editor,,which quite frankly while easy to use,, is alot more involved due to needing to make sure every little thing is good-to-go

In one word, yes. These are only icons. Copy your equipment and efx file into this mode folder under Data (equipment) and Graphics (efx). This in case you want to add different icons. If you just want to replace vanilla icons with one of these sets, then just rename the icons to the same name as vanilla and no need to edit equipment and efx. Use always GME, in order to keep your vanilla installation clean.

Ok thanks, makes it more clear. Ok well somewhat more clear haha So which of these two files do I want to use then? All I want is to switch the camo unit with the non camo units in the game?
