Thanks :)

Having finished the bulk of the work for all 14 scenarios of th main campaign path I'm proud to announce that v0.9 will arrive in ca. 2 weeks, +/- a couple of days depending on how much adjustments still have to be made, and how much other business might come in the way of modding :)

So it's the right time to post more previews. What has changed?

Well, this might give a clue:
Image

Changes on the "old" scenarios are mainly for no.3 and 4.

The most dramatic changes are made with naval units: there are now numerous ships classes with significantly different stats compared to the main game. In general I upped firing ranges, so that DDs have now a range of 3, while BBs may have up to 8. There main purpose is costal bombardment though, and usually you cannot go directly to the beaches because capitals cannot pass shallow water, so practically the useable range might be shorter depending on the coastlines.

DDs and all naval transport can pass shallow water, so the TPs can disembark normally. As posted earlier ship vs. ship naval battles play only a minor role, mainly during th New Georgia campaign. I also gave some of the "newer" DDs and CLs active air attack stats.

I didn't make an entry for every change though like "changed unit X air attack to Y" because I didn't keep track that slavishly, and I think with so many new units incl. new stats people will have to familiarize themselves with those anyway. So I highly recommend to use the unit info panels in-game.

Otoh, I included an info page in the library giving info about traits, bonus units and units being able to switch since this is nowhere shown in-game:

Finally two pics showing some unit art - first USMC units advancing on Okinawa:

From the same scenario - some vessels of the British Pacific Fleet that make an appearance in the midst of the scn:

Excellent stuff!

One thing though, perhaps you should desaturate a bit the blue of the US planes. It is so strong and different from the landscape.

I was going to suggest the same, bebro.

I am saying the icons look fantastic, but the blue on the US Navy Planes (and Marines for that matter) is a very dark blue, a dark NAVY BLUE, almost black. All the restored aircraft I have seen in Museums and at airshows are very dark blue, so blue it looks black sometimes. The English planes look spot on. That blue Corsair looks kick butt!

I know this is a ground based game, but airplanes play a big part in the overall scheme. I have not played the whole campaign through yet, but was curious to know if Bebro made a little side scenario when the P-38's intercepted Yamamoto's plane and SMOKED his a**.

Thanks for the comments everyone :)

About the color, yeah I know these fighters stand out somewhat, but a deep blue paint is also historical, as flak noted. I can see to tone down the Corsair and Hellcat a tad, but I don't want to depart totally from the historic look, so it will not be a dramatic change.

Yes please. No dramatic change, just a little.
They look really fantastic in the map.

Thx :)

Another preview showing most US ships that are in:

Image

The GFX are used for several ship classes though in the eqp file. The APD is a destroyer-transport in game used as a naval transport in some scns. It is faster than normal sea TPs and can also bombard as long the unit in it has not disembarked. In general, coastal bombardment will be very important in many scns to reduce or suppress the enemy.

I also thought about a somewhat less generic name for the campaign. Semper Fidelis/Semper Fi would be an obvious choice, but I decided against precisely because of this, since it is used quite often. I thought of "Eagle, Globe &Anchor" which is symbolic for the USMC :)

Well..I never thought I would enjoy being a Marine ,even in a game  ,but bebro you have changed this.

With this campaign you've made an old paratrooper/air assault trooper enjoy being a Marine  .....almost :D

Great Job

But first we need a new patch, because the Ai Paratrooper never jump out of the Plane, only fly, fly and fly...

I actually am thinking of doing an airborne campaign based on the book Four Star of Hell, which was a book based on the 501 PIR (which is no longer part of the division). The 501st became the infantry regiment in the Third Herd,,more commonly know as the 173rd Airborne Brigade.

I've been writing down some stuff......but just in the comtemplation phase at this time

Sounds like a great idea for a campaign :)

Some more pics and infos to the USMC:

There are some little things to iron out but I'm optimistic overall to meet the self-imposed deadline, so I still hope to have it out in ca. a week.

Among the things changed from part one are move 2 for some light arty and AT pieces like Japanese 70mm, US 75mm pack howitzer or US 37mm ATG.

The campaign will "change course" so to speak several times. I don't mean the campaign path, rather the character of the scenarios and the challenges they represent. The first four on Guadalcanal are pretty straight-forward - you either attack or defend, and contact with the enemy is always made within the first one or two turns.

The next two during the New Georgia campaign differ somewhat: you have to make several landings at different spots in each, and need to work out the best way to reach all objectives in time.

After that there's a certain jump in both size an difficulty when you have to attack Central Pacific atolls like Tarawa. The second half of the campaign has both landings on small, but strongly defended islands like Peleliu or Iwo Jima, as well as the bigger ops on Saipan, Guam and finally Okinawa, in which there will be a stronger "war of maneuver" element.

Anyway, those guys will always be waiting:
