Chat feature?
Chat feature?
I wonder if its possible to include some sort of messaging when you're playing through Game Center. It would be nice to let your opponent know you won't be able to make a move for a hour or so. Then you're not left hanging, wondering if you're still connected. Expecting a turn and none comes. Or leaving a game overnight.
And it would leave room for ample trash talking or bad tap excuses, too.

Game Center is a bit limited in its capabilities, but we do want to add what we can. Likely a way to send a comment when you end the turn.
Re: Chat feature?
^ almost like a telegram to the opposing side - not true chat, but a sort of asynchronous communication.
Re: Chat feature?
Yeah, I'm all for some kind of chat feature. It would be nice to trade ideas and comments with opponents. And some slinging of quips too.

The word "telegram" came up today when we were discussing this feature…Jim wrote:^ almost like a telegram to the opposing side

Re: Chat feature?
The 'telegram' system is used in many other wargames I play, e.g. Panzer Corps, Commander series - it works very well. Interactive chat is not needed, but the opportunity for turn-by-turn communication definitely is!
Re: Chat feature?
An end of turn message would really be all that is needed.
Yes, it will let us get to know each other as we play.

Re: Chat feature?
I agree with this one. Chatting during a game turn sounds cool, but the turns are so quick I really don't see myself sending a message until I'm done with my move. (and hopefully this approach will be relatively easy to implement)Mikus42 wrote:An end of turn message would really be all that is needed.

Re: Chat feature?
That would be excellent actually. Keeping in the spirit of the game Allies can send realistic looking Western Union telegrams and the Axis would send the style of telegram they used in the war.daviddunham wrote:The word "telegram" came up today when we were discussing this feature…Jim wrote:^ almost like a telegram to the opposing side
Re: Chat feature?
Be great to send a telegram to the German player that says "Nuts!"

Re: Chat feature?
I'm probably going against the grain here but I much prefer 'ongoing' Chat rather than 'end of turn' Chat.
The reason is it's nice to be able to send a chat message even if it's not your turn and there are occasions with some other games that employ 'end of turn chat' where I mean to respond to a message, I take my turn and forget to add the response and then I have to wait for my next turn (which could be the following day) and remember what it was I was going to say.
Other occasions are where a player might want to ask a question about the rules or interface that might influence their turn but they can't wait for a response before making that turn.
I know it might sound trivial but comparing those games that employ 'ongoing' like Carcassonne vs games that don't like Tigris & Euphrates, 'ongoing' is just smoother all round.
The telegram format of the chat message however, is a great idea!

Re: Chat feature?
I would prefer ongoing chat too. It’s just not something we can implement using Game Center. It takes a different server to make it work.

I prefer the way Carcassonne implements it. Ongoing and access it any time.

Re: Chat feature?
I was wondering if anyone has tried to use the iMessage feature in a game. It could be a work-around until a more permanent solution is found.
Maybe when you send a game request to a buddy, you could include your iMessage address and use that for a "chat"?

Re: Chat feature?
Allow to choose from built-in expressions.
Re: Chat feature?
Not suggesting this conversation is finished but we've put the only kind of chat available to us with Game Centre into the game.
End turn messaging is now available in version 1.1

It's a big step forward so thank you.
Re: Chat feature?
Having started this thread, I would be remiss to not drop a huge THANK YOU for adding the chat feature.
