Panzer Corps: join the Slitherine Tournament!
Panzer Corps fans (we know there’s many of you out there) we have wonderful news for you.
We’re going to run a big tournament to establish once and for all who the real Panzer Corps Slitherine champion is!
Our tournament system hasn’t been implemented yet, so we’re going to run this in the good old way: manually. It will be a 32 player direct elimination tournament, which means we’ll have some very spectacular semifinals and final!
Important: this will be a rather big tournament, and we want our players to be motivated. It will be a direct elimination tournament, and each round will last one week. The rounds will be played on balanced MP maps in elimination rounds: if you think you can’t complete your game in a week please don’t sign up. This will be an intense experience - failure to complete your game in the allocated time will result in elimination from the tournament. It will be up to the participants to demonstrate (in the form of screenshots) their participation, their submitted turns and, most importantly, their victories!
It goes without saying that there will be some nice prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
The first round will start next Monday – and that’s when we’ll announce the first map, so it’s going to be a surprise. Yes, I have an evil grin as I type this.
So, do you want to give it a shot?
Send an e-mail to albertoc@slitherine.co.uk providing your username on the forum and your timezone / hours in which you can play normally. Be quick! There are only 32 open slots!
One last thing: Many thanks to Goose 2 for all his suggestions and his activity on organizing tournaments for Panzer Corps – this tournament wouldn’t have been possible without his efforts. Thank you! You’re a real pillar of the Panzer Corps community.

Re: Panzer Corps: join the Slitherine Tournament!
Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy.
Daddy is super happy..
Highly Interested in this tournament as you know.
I am located in the Central US Time Zone.
My hours I can play are anywhere between 8pm through midnight and 5 am through 7 am every day.
I will make a supreme effort to bust through the scenarios and put forth a valiant effort.
Problem: I do not know how to post screen shots.
I will communicate the outcome of all my battles, and I will make sure to cc my competitor so they can verify the outcome.
So happy to be able to participate and thanks so much for the shout out on the forum it is truly humbling.

Re: Panzer Corps: join the Slitherine Tournament!
I have 2 questions:
I started a multi-player game, and suddenly after a few turns, we switched sides! That means clicking on the game, it will start showing MY moves as Russians, and then it's the German Turn, and I can see now all German units formerly hidden in the Fog of War! Is that a known bug? Or did I somehow trigger that unintentionally?
And why are all posts from yesterday erased?

bah, just noticed that post, too late.
Out of curiosity, how is it handled? hot seat sessions, like good 'ol heroes of might and magic?
i imagine you start on a given map with some fixed prestige amount.

Oh, wow, a snow ball effect I guess.(Not sure if that term exists in English:Starts as a small snow ball, ends as a big avalanche in the valley)

Yes it does occur in English. It is actually a somewhat common term used for that situationML_Berlin wrote:Not sure if that term exists in English:Starts as a small snow ball, ends as a big avalanche in the valley

Cool, thx for confirming! The problem between English and German is that sometimes it's very close or even 100% superposable, and sometimes not at all or even the opposite!BiteNibbleChomp wrote:Yes it does occur in English. For example:
'Gift' means poison in German, same spelling and same pronounciation, 100%!
Which is especially rare, even 'Bier'= beer is only like 90% the same in the pronounciation, English-speaking people emphasise the 'r' at the end while Germans rather the 'ie' (ee), it's just a British or German accent, so you can hear which nationality is ordering a beer, but the message is still transported clearly:-)
If you just record the word 'gift' from people in Germany and UK, nobody could tell later in which nation it happened, unless the recorded one has a special local accent or dialect of course and therefore speaks no standard English or German. There are Bavarians which are harder to understand than a drunken one who mumbles. Which, of course, may be because most Bavarians have this weird dialect AND are drunken and mumble

So imagine in WW II, a defeated and broken-down German officer with no or just rudimentary knowledge of the English language is brought to the victorious Allied commander for questioning:
The haggard looking man can not understand him and just repeats his name, rank and number. The victor wants to be generous and break the ice by offering a block of chocolate( usally just wrapped in paper or tinfoil, no colorful fancy pictures like today) :" Here (Hier 95%) is (ist 90-100%) a (ein 75-100%=in some German dialects it's the same) gift (Gift 100%) ! " The percentages are for how close the pronouncation is to the German words.
"Here is a gift!" The German is surprised that he speaks German with him now, but nevertheless is refusing vehemently to take the poison. And the commander knows now, those stubborn hardcore nazis won't even take some sweets from him

Re: Panzer Corps: join the Slitherine Tournament!
Is the amount of Prestige gained every turn in a multi-player game a fixed value in each scenario or subject to changes (f.e. number of objectives hold/conquered) ?
I started now my 8th multi-player game(different scenarios), I ALWAYS play Allied! Is that just a coincidence, or do I miss or misunderstand an option!?
I always choose 'paired game', assuming that the sides are chosen randomly then.

I loved this story

The amount of prestige should be set the same for each scenario.
For example Poland
The Germans should receive 5 prestige per round
The Poles should receive 20 per round
You should receive 50 for the first time each secondary objective is captured and 100 for the 1st time any main objective is captured.
Paired game means you will play both sides
You have to wait for your opponent to play their turn so you will play the other side

Re: Panzer Corps: join the Slitherine Tournament!
Great, that you enjoyed it!
Another short example how tricky English-German can be:
to come=kommen
to become= bekommen
Isn't that logic, right?!
EEEEEEEEERK
to come=kommen ,it has 100% the same meaning in German and English
BUT to become= werden bekommen= to get
So if you hear somebody in a restaurant saying to a waitress: ' I become a beefsteak', it's definitely a German, with only rudimentary knowledge of the English language, trying to say: ' I(want) to get a beefsteak', fooled by the fact that become and bekommen sounds and looks very close, and their 'sisters' come and kommen have indeed the same meaning.
Those 'logic' but wrong translations are called false friends. And E-G is full of them. But maybe my language level in other languages is just not good enough to recognize them as frequently. I learned my broken Spanish only by speaking for 2 month in Spain, and after I learned some important verbs like to be, to have etc in Spanish, then I had a a very good chance to recognize any word by thinking of a French or English word and add an o ( or in rare cases an a) and got the Spanish one:-)
E rapid = rapido S
F travaille=travacho S ( the French don't prounounce 'll' as In English, it sounds travay, 'a' like in 'father') that means 'to work' in English
At least I understood enough to not get shot by drunken police officers in the Phillipines a few years later
Now to PzC, thanks for your answers.
Especially for the Prestige per turn it could have been someting like, 'you must have half of all( or enemy) objectives to get X more prestige per turn'. So that is clear now.
I accepted some challenges at start, and started issuing challenges later, so meanwhile I got already the idea that 2 games are started with that option. All those things are not explained or described in the rules. And I have seen the term 'paired game' in the meaning that the players and the game were paired by the organizer of an tournament( or here the software), in opposite to a 'league- modus' where players online can play freely with any other participant, as long as they had not played already before, and report result and opponent afterwards to the organizer. Those people may have not been native speakers of English, and therfore used a wrong term. Or does it maybe has both meanings?
However, if I don't want to start 2 games at once( which is a rather untypical feature, in fact I don't know any other game with that option!) , and just a single game, I do really miss a 'random starting side' button ! I'm so used to this feature from other games that it was completely clear !
Select Sides:
Axis- Allies- Paired Game
Paired Game must be random selection. The players will be 'paired' and put on the seats( sides).
Made sense for me
In the starting post it is always the singular form= If you cannot finish your game in a week, not games, so I guess there will be a single game. How will the sides be determined? Dice roll of organizer? Bribing the referee? Between the players?
If you don't want to eat your future meals with a straw you will play the Romanians!

Re: Panzer Corps: join the Slitherine Tournament!
Hi Gents,
Quick question- do I need to download the PC Gold edition? I went to start the scenario, and it did not allow me to pick the chosen scenario to initiate a multi-player game.
I am running the PC Grand Campaigns mega pack right now, but it doesn't let me select some of the oddball scenarios that I've played in the single-player grand campaigns.
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark, you should be able to pick that scenario by selecting the Wehrmacht campaign while on the scenario selection screen (click on the Iron Cross icon to the left)marktk36thil wrote:Hi Gents,
