I've played a lot of tank sims. Reverse is a critical tool for a tank. When in hull down position a tanker will pull up just over the crest, find and fire a shot then back up sufficent to hide or turn and move to another part of the ridge or hill ... pull up over the crest, find and fire ... repeat ... etc. This way you present a moving target to the enemy. (pop tart)
Reverse also serves to back you out of a bad situation without presenting your arse to the enemy. This game models front, side and rear armor as accurately as possible so if you do ride into some bad juju you can escape with out giving the enemy a shot at your soft spot.
... just my 2 cents
Why no reverse?

Still No Reverse
You would think that by this time a patch would have been created to allow vehicles to move backwards. Perhaps this problem should be given a higher consideration than it has.

The addition of reverse will make this one of the best armored combat games on the market ... imho. I really like this game but no reverse for tanks really dampened my enjoyment because I could see the potential from an armored conflict standpoint. I guess one good thing was that I focused on using my foot soldiers better while waiting for the update.

that's good for me ... panic does strange things to people.
What I want is the player controlled ability to back up my tank a sector or two. Many times I've "hunted" ... sneaked around and came up on a superior tank and wished I could back up behind a building or ridge then turn tail and run ... or want to be able to sneak up to a hill, take a shot then back up (assuming I don't get hit with op fire and go suppressed and have the driver panic ...

Cant wait for reverse
Yeah, FInally having reverse will be nice with the tanks, so many tanks get smoked retreating. BUt yeah, my dad is the king of corny old jokes and in particular jokes aimed at the Italians during World War II like this one; "Why did Italian tanks have 3 reverse gears and 1 forward gear? in case they get attacked from the rear"
