Re: BA Pacific Campaign - Seeking alpha testers!
Quick question Jon. I noticed that the Japanese have 2 Carriers and 1 Airfield. I was thinking that maybe a Airfield will be OP? Because carriers can be sunk and destroyed but Airfield is indestructible unless captured and I doubt the Japanese are going to leave a small garrison. Is there a way to damage an airfield and have Engineers repair it so the Japanese don't have unlimited Airpower due to that Airport?

Quick Question will this be MP or SP? Or both?

Good question LM... My current thinking on this is to go experimental...LandMarine47 wrote:Quick question Jon. I noticed that the Japanese have 2 Carriers and 1 Airfield. I'd like to turn the airfield control tower object into a static unit (ie. it can't move) that can 'carry' up to 3 aircraft units (like an LCT in Dieppe).
These aircraft units can then scout and attack like normal units, but they have to return to an airfield to re-arm/re-fuel.
Airfields can be attacked by air, naval or ground units... If an airfield's morale<50 then aircraft cannot take off... If its morale<0 then aircraft cannot land (they'll have to go somewhere else).
Airfields can be captured by ground units, destroying all of the aircraft units inside, and transferring control of its runway to the attacker.
Amaris is attempting to simulate airfields/carriers using a different method...
If you alpha guys will kindly 'guinea pig' for us, we can refine, based on your experiences and feedback... to choose which versions work best for gameplay...

Gentlemen Alpha Testers...
Please PM me your personal email address
I hope to have a 'sandbox' version of The Island out later this week/early next week, which will let you play as USN or IJN, interacting with another MP player (or yourself in hotseat mode).
Give me an email address which can accept large files. 'Pacific for Battle Academy: Scenario 1: The Island' will not be uploaded to the forum at this stage. I will email your alpha copy directly to you.
This first release will concentrate on naval-to-naval battles, where we need your feedback to establish historically accurate/best gameplay stats for...
i) line of sight (LOS)
ii) firing ranges
iii) movement ranges
...for the various classes of warship and support vessels...
THANK YOU

Re: BA Pacific Campaign - PM email to alpha test
USN Fleet approaches from the sea lanes to the northeast

IJN Fleet begins in the bay south of Pulau Bahaya's harbour

Pulau Bahaya is a challenging objective, partially fortified by man... and heavily fortified by nature... reefs, rocks on the beach, cliffs, hills, rivers... and, man, the jungle... When you play this one, we want you reaching for the Mosi-Guard, lol... VP flags on the main bunker, the port, and 2 airfields...

Surrounding islands offer vantage points for spies and spotters... and a smaller Japanese outpost to the west

Most islands are partly raised, to help to hide each fleet's movements... And, yes, before anyone asks, PC users will get the usual shimmering water effects (not seen here because I'm dev-ing on a Mac)
COMING SOON! Alpha testers please PM me your email addresses...

Hi,
It's quite incredible how you have managed to turn a game about tank and infantry combat into a naval wargame.
I would not have believed this possible.

For the Alpha...
Please feedback which units you'd like to see... BRAINSTORM ANYTHING!!
All ideas welcome (especially if you include links to websites/wikis detailing their unit stats for armour, firepower, speed, special skills, etc)
For the first draft of 'Pulau Bahaya' I'm working to include these units (with indicative stats for Speed, Main guns, Armour, AA power)
USN & USMC
BB Battleship (Iowa class - 31 kts, 9x 16"/20x 5" guns, bulkhead 13"/deck 7.5", 80x 50cal Bofors/49x 30cal Oerlikon AA)
CA Heavy cruiser (Baltimore class - 33 kts, 9x 8"/12x 5", belt 6"/deck 3", 48x Bofors/24x Oerlikon AA)
CL Light cruiser (Cleveland class - 33 kts, 12x 6"/12x 5", belt 3-5"/deck 2", 12x Bofors/20x Oerlikon AA)
DD Destroyer (Fletcher class - 37 kts, 5x5"/10x torp tubes/depth charges, ?armour, 8x Bofors/8x Oerlikon AA)
AM Minesweeper (Auk class - 12-18 kts, 1x 3"/mines, ?armour, 2x Bofors/8x Oerlikon AA)
SS Submarine (Gato class - 21 kts surf/9 kts sub, 10x torp tubes/1x 3", 1x Bofors/1x Oerlikon AA)
APA Attack Transport (Harris class - 18 kts, 4x 3", ?armour, 2x Bofors/10x Oerlikon; carries 1,800 tonnes cargo, equiv 1,500 troops)
LVT Landing Vehicle Tracked
M4A3R3 Zippo (aka flame Sherman)
M4 Sherman medium tank (25-30mph, 75mm gun/50cal, 19-76mm armour)
M3 Stuart light tank (36mph, 37mm gun/30cal, 13-50mm armour)
US Army Truck
US Army Jeep
?M2 105mm howitzer
USMC mortar team
USMC marine
USMC flamethrower
USMC scouts
US Seabee (Construction Battalion Engineer)
IJN & IJA
BB Battleship (Yamato class - 27 kts, 9x 18"/12x 6"/12x 5" guns, side 16"/deck 9", 125x Oerlikon AA/336x AA rocket launchers)
BC Battle cruiser (Kongo class - 29 kts, 4x 14"/16x 6"/6x 5", side 8"/deck 4", 118x Oerlikon AA)
CA Heavy cruiser (Tone class - 35 kts, 8x 8"/8x 5"/12 torp tubes, belt 4"/deck 3", 56x Oerlikon AA)
DD Destroyer (Matsu class - 28 kts, 3x 5"/8x torp tubes/depth charges, ?armour, 39x Oerlikon AA)
PB Patrol boat (No.31 class - 18 kts, 2x 5"/depth charges/mines, ?armour, 2x Oerlikon AA)
AK Transport/Cargo (No.101 class - 15 kts, 1x 3", ?armour, 6x Oerlikon AA; carries 250 tonnes cargo, equiv 320 troops)
Fishing boats (10-15 kts)
ShinHoTo Chi Ha 'medium' tank (24mph, 47mm gun, 8-33mm armour, 2x 7.7mm MG)
Ha Go light tank (28mph, 37mm gun, ?armour, 2x 7.7mm MG)
Ho Ni tank destroyer (24mph, 75mm gun, 25-51mm armour, no MG)
Ko Hi type 98 self-propelled AA gun (25mph, Oerlikon AA, ?armour)
IJA Truck
Type 10 120mm AA/coastal defence guns
IJA mortar team
SNLF (special naval landing forces; think marine commandos)
IJA regular infantry
IJA Type 100 AT flamethrower
IJA snipers
IJA scouts
IJA engineer
NB. To put some of the 'puny' looking 3-inch main gun sizes into context, the 76mm on a Sherman Firefly is equivalent to a 3-inch gun. A German 88 is 3.5 inches. A 152mm coastal gun is 6 inches... So with those references in mind, recall that the IJN Yamato has NINE 18-inch main guns... An Iowa class has NINE 16-inch main guns... These beasts were massive and truly devastating...
Japanese warships were designed to be individually superior in firepower and armour when facing enemy vessels... Hence, for this scenario, the Imperial Japanese Navy receives BB, BC & CA classes to duke it out versus the US Navy's BB, CA & CLs... Sticking to historical accuracy, USN fleets generally enjoyed more and faster warships than the IJN (although the Jap Tone class heavy cruiser is shockingly fast!)...
Soooooo in BA terms, think Tigers vs Shermans... You'll outnumber 'em, but you'll need to sneak around cover and use your manoeuvrability to win the day... Air power will help, when it becomes available...
Planned for subsequent releases...
USN CV Carrier (Yorktown class - 33 kts, upto 90 aircraft/8x 5in, 2.5-4in armour,40x Bofors/50x Oerlikon AA)
IJN CV Carrier (Hiryu class - 34 kts, upto 64 aircraft/6x 5in, 6in armour, 40x Oerlikon AA)
Zero fighter
F4U Corsair fighter
Val bomber
Avenger bomber
Ability to surface/submerge sub (and gain LOS/defence benefits)

BA is an incredibly open platform that makes this sort of craziness possible... Amaris & I just fill in the imagination!!

PM me an email address if you'd like in on our first round of play testing? The alpha will be on closed release to alpha testers only...

Re: BA Pacific Campaign - Which units?
As for more units
Japanese need to get some 37MM AT Guns.
And maybe some 75MM Howitzers were a constant threat to USMC units during landings. Beaches were heavily fortified with trenches running along them so maybe use Tim1966's Trenches. Due to high bombards the US marines would always have craters so use rough ground all over the beaches.
Is there a way to stop surrendering? Because we all know Japanese Troops would fight to the death.
But this is for later historical maps. For right now some light artillery to counter the USMC Tanks would be great

Re: BA Pacific Campaign - New Jap 'destroyer'
Methinks the Japanese may be fudging their treaty limitations (again
)
The Japanese Defence Force launched its biggest warship since WW2 this week... technically, and here I kid you not, a 'destroyer'
For those in doubt, the new Izumo 'destroyer' is the flat top behind the older Hyuga 'destroyer' in the aerial photo below...
Meanwhile work on Amaris & GottaLove88s continues apace... Huge thanks to our beta testers...
PM us a regular email address if you want to become involved!
