Operational Cannibal
Burma has been occupied by the Japanese but allied forces are launching the first offensive to retake Burma.



The aim will be to secure a foothold in Burma's Arakan region. Our objectives are to capture primary objectives and the ultimate goal is to capture Akyab, which is marked as a secondary objective.



My core forces are deployed and are only expected to encounter light resistance.



However after the first turn, proves the reports of light resistance to be wrong.



The Japanese have constructed many static fortifications in the area.



We break down the initial defences at Rumkhapalong and Panzai Bazar.

One group heads east but Chewai is surrounded by heavy fortifications.



The other group heads south to cut off the Japanese forced around Whaikhyang and it is soon taken by the southern force.



However the Eastern group faces more difficulties and have to pull back to avoid destruction.



Chewai is eventually taken. The forces in Chewai split a bit, while a few units take the city to the north-east. The rest go south.



The southern group heads further south but are harassed by Japanese bombers.



Angumaw is taken and we capture transport ships. This does give the option to across the ocean to get close to Akyab but such a operation would be risky.

The city east of Gonapara is captured.



The north eastern city is taken.



The Japanese forces north of Angumaw are cut off and destroyed.



We start our efforts to take Gonapara.



All primary objectives are taken and Arakan is secured.

Unfortunately Akyab is too far away for us to reach and we don't have the time left.



The scenario is passed regardless but we miss out on some specialization points. The Japanese posed stiff resistance and I was unable to provide a full victory.

Perhaps I shouldn’t point stuff out, as this is an AAR, not a strategy discussion, but I think captured Aykab using paratroopers and SAS, supported by a portion of my force I diverted south, without using the boats. Just thought I’d point that out.

Operation Longcloth
The Chindits are sent to launch deep-penetration raids into Japanese controlled Burma.



The primary objectives are fairly simple. The challenge will be completing the many secondary objectives. We are deep in enemy territory and will need to reach the supply drop zones to ensure the Chindits are kept in supply. We will end the scenario by reaching the evacuation point. I had to replay a few times to reach a satisfactory result. There is a bit of a struggle between keeping the supply connected with the Chindits and not getting destroyed by Japanese forces that eventually start hunting for the Chindits.



I use the few land command points given to purchase 2 paratroopers.



One group moves south to the Aberdeen LZ. The other group goes to Mogaung to destroy the aircrafts that soon land.



The outer defences of Mogaung are destroyed and the Chindits break into the airfield to destroy the parked aircraft.

The group of Chindits that heads south, are close to Indaw and start destroying the trains. The group of Chindits that destroyed the aircrafts, heads south to reach the Piccadilly and Broadway Landing Zones. I also move to make more connections between the two groups for supply. We need to move fast as the Aberdeen LZ is taken by the Japanese



We destroy the 4 trains at the Indaw Rail Depot



We connect the supply lines between the two groups and destroy the units inside, making it more stable.



Both groups head south. One group focuses on destroying both bridges in the south, the other destroys the Japanese HQ near Lashio.



The Japanese units in front are pushed aside and the Rail Bridge South is destroyed.

Chowringhee LZ is secured. Bhamo is taken by the paratroopers supported by artillery and some Chindit units move towards Lashio to attack the Japanese HQ.



Further west, several units move towards the Southwest Rail Bridge and the supply line between the two groups is reconnected.



The Japanese HQ near Lashio is easily destroyed by the Chindits and they now move north.



Destroying the Southwest Rail Bridge proves a bit more difficult as when I moved a unit on the bridge, the enemy artillery would strike and the Japanese infantry then causes it to retreat. But here the paratroopers will be able to stay on the enemy turn.



Japanese infantry has now occupied the Piccadilly LZ and blocking the supply from the Broadway LZ. Fortunately the paratroopers with the help of the incoming Chindits are able to deal with the Japanese infantry blocking the supply and it seems the Japanese heavy infantry has decided to stay on the Piccadilly LZ.



The paratrooper stays on the bridge, the enemy infantry deciding to attack the Chindits north of it. The Southwest Rail Bridge is destroyed and the units will now move east to safety.

The Chindits moving north get to the Broadway LZ and attack the Japanese units guarding the Rail Bridge North



The units that destroyed the Southwest Rail Bridge get to a more safe position.



The defenders of Rail Bridge North are easily pushed aside by the Chindits and the bridge is destroyed.



All 3 bridges are now destroyed.

The Chindits reach the evacuation point.



A victory with all secondary objectives completed and no chindit units destroyed.

In between the scenarios I purchase the flight school and pilot rotation specialisations.



Ledo Road
Ever since the Burma Road was cut in 1942, the allies only way of delivering supplies and equipment to china was via air lifts over the Hump. The construction of the Ledo Road will fix this but we need to clear the Japanese forces first from Ledo to Walawbum.



In addition to securing all our objectives. A construction units will spawn each time we clear a Japanese outpost and we must make sure the construction units survive the enemy counter attacks as a secondary objective.



Our forces have received a few upgrades, namely the switch from regular infantry to gurkhas and the Matilda tanks to Churchills. While expensive, the Churchills are very durable and the enemy will struggle to damage them. The chinese have also sent a token force to assist us.



As a result of completing a secondary objective in the pervious scenario. Orde Wingate has joined us as a commander.



Shinhbwiyang is taken on turn 4. The construction spawns the turn after the primary objective is taken so I was careful and made sure my units were in a position to protect it when it spawns. I lost the first construction unit when I played the first time and my units were not in a position to protect it.

Japanese counter attacks on the first construction site are soundly defeated.



I make a effort to clear the Japanese units across the bridge using infantry and focus on securing Yupbang



Yupbang is taken on turn 11 and Japanese forces counter attack comes from the north east.



I already have Chinese units stationed and they blunt the counter attack before moving back to my other units.



The Japanese units efficiency suffers and are easily destroyed in a counter attack. My units further south have cleared enemy units across the bridge and are moving towards the last construction site.

As we fight for Maingkwan, the recon plane spots a group of Japanese units that will counter attack.



Maingkwan is taken on turn 23 and the Japanese units start their counter attack.



The counter attack is defeated.

Walawbum is taken and all primary objectives are captured.



With the Ledo Road complete, China will stay supplied with equipment. This aid will allow China to stay effective and tie up large numbers of Japanese troops.

In between the scenarios I purchase the drop tank specialisation.



Imphal 44
With Japanese defeats mounting in other fronts. The Japanese have launched a major offense into India, Operation U-Go.



The Japanese are aiming to take Imphal. We must also hold Senapati and Churachandpur to avoid Imphal being encircled. Our secondary objectives are to capture the two Japanese supply dumps in the area.



My core forces are concentrated in the south west and north east. These forces will make sure the flanks are held.




The Japanese have amassed a large force against us. They have large amounts of tanks and artillery. We also have large amounts of Indian forces under our command and they will hold the main battle line in front of Imphal. The Indians immediately make contact. I pull the Indians back to move out of the enemy artillery range and form a more solid defence line. With my strategic bombings pounding the enemy from above. It is my hope the enemy will wear themselves out.

My core forces in the south west and north east both make contact with the enemy. While the the Japanese hit the Indian forces in the north east hard, my core forces in the north west deal with a large Japanese armor formation.




In the centre, the Indians have moved back and formed a solid defensive line. The Japanese units attacking take heavy losses and their attack breaks down.



In the north east, the Japanese armor formation is defeated. While several Indian units are destroyed, the Japanese units attacking west are defeated.



In the south west, my core forces smash the Japanese units on the flank and start hitting the centre.

By now the Japanese attack on the centre has faltered and the Indians start a counter attack.



We can now focus on taking the two Japanese supply dumps. However the supply dumps are guarded by experienced Japanese units.




After fighting, the supply dump at Moreh is taken and we get a Sherman Calliope unit as a reward.



Gambai is also taken a short while later and we get a Type 97 Shinhoto Chi-Ha.
