Battle of Sirmiun, Byzantine 51 , Hungarian 61 "very closed match"
Byzantine victory at Sirmium!!
The Byzantine men struck the enemy center line by breaking it and then hitting its flanks.

For victory we followed the plan developed by my 4-year-old aide-de-camp, who drew a smiley face on the map... and believe me... it was the best plan of all those proposed by my generals...

The smiley face deployment will now be incorporated in the Byzantine military manual as a standard disposition for all generals. Congratulations on your victory over the Hairy Hungarian would be Hegemony

Congratulations fybyyn. So I was beaten by a plan devised by a 4 year old, I am clearly far too old for this game!!
Well played by you and your 4 year old aide de camp.

Suggestions for the next Event anyone ?
Re: A private team event - Byzantines v Hungarians
What about a nice crusade? I'm sure the Hungarians would welcome the opportunity to become fanatical crusaders. I'm sure our byzantine emperor might allow them passage to the Levant, and they might fancy some sun, surf after their dank dreary Hungarian countryside.

I've really enjoyed this event so I will join in whatever is decided. The Crusades could provide lots of interesting match ups and as an alternative, whilst sticking with the clash if cultures theme, how about something based on the Iberian peninsula? Plenty of factions to choose from there.

Conversely, A war of Italian city states with plenty of options for later armies with Free companies and Condottieri added in (not to confused with Conditori La Glace, which is Denmark's oldest, and probably also best patisserie). We could each represent a city state within a faction (eg: Papal aligned with Naples against Florence and Milan)
Sorry, I've been watching reruns of Medici the Magnificent, and the Borgia's.

Re: A private team event - Byzantines v Hungarians
We have had an Italian Wars Campaign back in early 2018 where I had my first game against Alan.
You organised & ran War for Europe & Near East November 2018 - January 2019
These were Pike & Shot Rulesets so we would be playing different Timelines in FoG.
Could a FoG Event start in FoGII and end in FoGM ?

Re: A private team event - Byzantines v Hungarians
I'm aware Brian but if we've all got FOG2, FOGM and Pike and shot why not progress from one to the other, tracing the evolution of Slavic to Polish Commonwealth, Spanish to Catalonian, Swedish Vikings to Gustavus Swedish...crazy idea I know, but it's just a thought.KiwiWarlord wrote: ↑Fri Mar 18, 2022 1:47 amGavin with the foggy, gooey brain, Pike & Shot is not FoG.......

Well, RBS has described Pike and Shot as
Different game engines, with significantly different game play, but all these games follow the wargaming style and ethos developed by RBS, that we so enjoy.rbodleyscott wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2014 12:33 pm ... pretty close to a computer version of an updated FOGR.
So I am rather in accord with Gavin here, these Usual Suspects team events are about exploring an historically themed series of games with amicable opponents and teammates, and broadening the time frame is an idea worthy of consideration. On a similar note, Alan and I have spitballed the idea of running a series of games through the Silk Road mods in FOGII and FoGM, and ending with the Ming in Crisis mod in Sengoku Jidai … [But that is a whole different can of worms!]

I never played FOGR in the tabletop world, it was always Phil Barker's DBR but I do agree with all you wrote Nick.GentlemanRanker wrote: ↑Fri Mar 18, 2022 12:58 pm Different game engines, with significantly different game play, but all these games follow the wargaming style and ethos developed by RBS, that we so enjoy.

I do like the 'Can of Worms' idea, when do we start ???? Including Sengoku Jidai is a brilliant idea as so few play anymore.
Gavin you have organised & ran some very good campaigns in years gone by, how about putting forth a serious suggestion of your ideas ?

Sounds good to me. I saw a road sign yesterday saying this way to "Espanha", and given as I don't often see road signs with countries names on I am taking it as an instruction. Spain please.
