I think this year, you have a faire chance to play me in any round, I hesitated between Mongol and Tlaxcalan and it seem I made the bad choice

Well, if you believe that their only motivation is to be a champion toy soldier player, then yes I would agree that later is a lot more likely. It is however possible that they have an interest in the military history of the period and want to use the early army, even if it is not optimsed for winning.
