goose_2 wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 11:29 pm Quick update. I was able to record the first 2 of what will be 4 broadcasts of 5 days each for Sevastopol. I found that pausing between rounds and making sure I do not make stupid mistakes helps me sort out the difficult battle. I am still not 100% sure I can get a decisive, but I am more confident than when I initially started. Thanks for the suggestion to bring Richard and Malcolm. I also buckled down and bought replacements for my SE Italian Infantry to get him back up to speed for the final push. It is going well, and do not see myself buying anymore in scenario elite replacements. They key is to draw as many units out as possible to give up their deep entrenchment, and also lucky shots against their forts.

Thanks for the help again.
Glad that it helped.

Had not have the time to deep dive into Sevastopol in the past few days, but will use the savegame as a reference for city fighting in preparation for Stalingrad.

Core unit stats from that savegame with adjusted thresholds. So that most of those thresholds can stay the same for several scenarios after that.

Finished Sevastopol yesterday. It is recorded in 4 posts total. I will post 1st on Sunday.

So glad you did another layout. Seeing it spread out like that is such a great reference point to make decisions on what to bring and what to upgrade, maybe

Trying to keep track of all of these units can be so daunting.

I will talk more with you on Friday on some of what you laid out here.

I think it is very concerning to see so many units in the Red, and only 2 with kill stats in the blue range.

Yikes!

43 may break me, as I will not have a strong enough force to be pulling off DV's me thinks.

Especially in the Kursk battles.

Seems to be ok for me so far, I can see the upcoming video and it lets me comment on it.

To be fair, the red thresholds were chosen to be something your units can "grow out of" and the blue thresholds were intended to be "grown into" over the coming 1942 scenarios.
So more intended as a fresh starting point in a series, rather than a final report on current stats.

Yeah, 43 will be rough, but even before that, Stalingrad and the final 42 scenario are already daunting.

I also investigated the aux unit experience issue a bit more, which I mentioned in the comments of your "Start of Simferopol" 42.3 video.
With your 25% player experience setting, your aux units will ALWAYS have 0 stars!
Simply because default player experience for GC 1943, 44 & 45 will nearly always be 300. So player experience setting would have to be at least 34% in order to have 1 star on your aux units.
While this alone is absolutely crippling in scenarios where the player has to rely on many aux units, it gets even worse if you have to rely on aux fighter aircraft (since fighters get +2 air attack rating per experience level)!

I am completely ok with aux unit crappiness
they are their for fodder only, I do not try and do any heavy lifting with them on the Grand Campaign

Quick Update: I was able to record first 5 days for Voronezh today. I have broke the map. At least I am very confident with what I have done over the 1st 5 days. I have a clear path around the North area around Voronezh. South area is ready to bypass. Voronezh itself is poised to be assaulted directly.

I have destroyed all of their tanks except for the KV-2, and 1 T-34 still holding in Voronezh itself. The only other tank on the field is the KV-42 around that southern objective. They are completely crippled as I have even taken out their flanking arty's and even drawn out a lot of their forward units around Voronezh.

What has been a real game changer is the switch and use of Doctor G and Night Phoenix the 2 of them make quite an effective team and I kind of like leaning into them heavily while they have the advantage, it will not last and I can use it to build up some significant kills on their bottom line.

Getting a couple of units to stand out feels good and crippling the enemies effectiveness overall.

The devastation is real and it is spectacular.

See you Sunday, which I should have finished the battle by then.

Very nice!
I also wrote a comment on your last video, how a range hero on Locarnus would indeed be great.
To make use of a self-propelled arty becoming available for Stalingrad Docks later on, which has stats similar to the short barrel StuG III (1 range, but armored and switchable). It was a stop-gap development for urban fighting.

Your above comment about the usefulness of an effective stand-out team is imho also the key to Stalingrad, with lessons learned from Sevastopol. Imho Sevastopol was hard because there was no such killer team consisting of infantry units.
Your long barrel StuG III and Panzer III were your tanks above 3 stars in the last core list.

I thus recommend trying to train up such a 3 star killer team for Stalingrad as well, now that most units have a hero.
Richard Martin with Grenadiere and Pullig with Fallschirmjäger have the strongest base unit stats for that.
Perhaps a third or maybe even fourth infantry as well, Pioniere with their military engineer trait come to mind against all that enemy entrenchment and Artemis with Jäger instead of Gebirgsjäger with his d2 hero.
Even if so many non bonus SE infantry units are not the optimal choice for the scenarios before Stalingrad, I think having them at or close to 3 stars in Stalingrad could be well worth it.

Quick Update:

I had to serve jury duty yesterday and so early morning had time to finish Voronezh.

Great News!

After selling everything and buying replacements I had 8000 in prestige.
After all of the upgrades I can think of to do I still have 7000 prestige.

Super pleased with this and feel strong into going into Novoanninsky, that is until I saw what I am facing.

Holy Crap!

13 str T-34's a 15 strength KV. 2 SPAAG's. This is going to be rough and painful. I will need to very cautious and hope for the best.

Oh yeah, something to think about as well.

Thanksgiving is happening next week. 11/28/24

As such I will not be able to do Friday broadcast because the day after Thanksgiving is the most important day of the year, where I go out with my wife all day shopping finding the perfect gifts for my kiddos. Love Black Friday!

But I still would like to know if you could make a broadcast work that Tuesday instead? 11/26/24

Let me know otherwise it will have to wait for next Sunday.

By the by my son will be around, hopefully for his Friday broadcast if you can make it. It is his huge playthrough of Streets of Moscow.

Blessings buddy

7k in mid 42 is a great achievement with that difficulty setting!
Gives some nice buffer for the harder scenarios in the second half of 1942.
And some time left to build up a killer infantry team in addition to your killer tank team.

Novoanninsky has lots of enemy tanks, but nearly all of them are older stuff.
With all those overstrength T-34s being the low ini, low rof version from 1940.
If I remember correctly, there is only one modern tank, a KV-1/42, which has such high defense that even your best guns will struggle against it.
Though I'll have to remember to nerf those SPAAG, they should only have range 1.

Not sure why so much old stuff is still around, perhaps the scenario designer wanted a stark contrast to the next Ilovlya scenario. Where there are even more tanks, but most of them are not overstrength and are instead the newest, much improved T-34/43 model. As far as I remember, their only combat stat that is not at least one better than the T-34/40 from Novoanninsky is their air defense (thus my pushing for the Hs 129 for Ilovlya at the latest).

Tuesday would be fine for me.
I'll also be there for the Friday broadcast, your son is making great progress from what I see!

Oh, about progression, I would like to get another savegame from the end of Novoanninsky?
Then I would try to release the next update before you start Ilovlya in December?

Hi,
I have problems installing your submod. I made a copy of my existing Battlefield game. After downloading your latest version I copied your files into my copied game. I can after starting read your advice for the Battlefield campaign and also for the Battlefield big scenario. But after starting the screen where the map should be ist totally black. I also can not end the game with the exit button.
I do not use JSGME at all.

Did you update Panzer Corps to the bugfixed version 1.32?

The bugfixed version of the 1.32 PzC patch can be downloaded from the first post of this very Addon thread, in section "1 of 5" of the "Install Instructions" (there is a patch version for steam and one for non-steam installs).
That step also has a link to a "detailed preparation guide", should that update not solve the issue.

Oh, and if you intend to start a longer game of the Battlefield Europe scenario, there is a major Addon update planned to be released during the very first days of December (thus at the end of or directly after the coming weekend).
It has many changes for that major BE scenario, so I highly recommend waiting until after that update is installed before starting the BE scenario (since many PzC changes can only affect scenarios that are started AFTER an update is installed).

To bridge the time and familiarize yourself with the Addon changes, I can recommend the "historical path" of the Africa Korps campaign (or at least playing the first few scenarios of that AK campaign).

Good luck and have fun!

 Braunschweig certainly is a nice city (for post ww2 germany)!
Update will take 2-3 more days I'm afraid. Made quite a few changes to BE scenario and have to polish some edges a bit more.
caesar67 wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2024 9:19 pm Ps: Looks great! Especially the highlighted heroe-units.
Thank you!
The hero highlights were inspired by the discussion in the BE thread!
As well as me picking up on BE scenario modding again (together with the ongoing Duedman vs HerzogSieg multiplayer match).

While BE scenario modding is a clear focus of the coming update, there will also be a lot of changes inspired by the GC youtube playthrough by goose_2!
Like soviet T-90 SPAAG range reduced to 1, soviet fighters ground defense nerfed and several changes regarding city fighting (infantry and towed AT close defense ratings buffed, Char Flamm conversion buffed). Some in preparation for the coming 1942 Stalingrad scenarios.

Goose_2 sent me a savegame from end of Novoanninsky (GC East 1942.6), which allows me to get an idea about balance for the upcoming scenarios and publish his core stats (assuming elite replacements at GC 42.7 start).
Imho it would be a great relief to have some infantry at or close to 3 stars for Stalingrad, though this is really hard with the 25% player experience setting he is using (double Rommel, double FieldMarshall + "rule of 1" + ...).
Only 2 arties and a strat managed to reach 4 stars so far, while most non-arty ground units are at 2 stars.
DanielS has the honor of first unit with second hero, and double spotting is great for a recon!

Not many upgrades becoming available now, but the german 7.5cm Pak should make Gigiduru much more potent (and feared by pretty much every enemy tank except KV-1/42).
And the long awaited Pz IV G will finally be available for GC 42.8.
Not sure about the italian Semovente 90/53 though, it is just a full strength BuFla or a Marder with a slightly better gun. I'd probably keep the towed italian Cannone 90/53 to be able to switch to AA mode when needed.
Also not sure about Locarnus and Reoguru, both being rather similar AA at the moment. Imho one has to become an arty for better kill and experience farming, not sure which one. For some reason I like the idea of "2cm FJGeb Flak 38" with movement hero (giving it 3 light infantry movement), though I guess it would be very situationally useful. But Reoguru is more in need of kills and experience, so would probably benefit more from becoming an arty instead.

GC 1942.7 start unit roster recommendations
7836 prestige

Yep, much more visible now than the small dots before, here showing the finnish bunker and fighter.

Lots of other changes to the BE scenario, notably a rework of the Leningrad siege.
And two more "any tank to Panther" conversion options, which comes in handy especially when under pressure.

Uh-Oh

I applied the update it worked, and I was playing around with Illovlaya ...then I shut down my computer, twice now, and when I load it back up it is not working.

I remember this happened few months ago. Do you remember what we did to get it back up again?

You can always (so far) overwrite old Addon versions with new ones.
Oh, and for Battelfield Europe don't forget to use the "/nocache" setting as described in the the BE thread as well as point 6 of the detailed preparation guide:
https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewto ... 7&t=106604

For ALL update changes to take hold, you have to start a new campaign (new GC chapter counts as new campaign) instead of loading a previous savegame.
Nearly all common changes take effect when transitioning to a new scenario after installing an update (so loading from a savegame at the end of the previous scenario is ok).
But some special stuff affects only new campaigns, like the rare changes to the movement table (which was done in this update).

I thought a bit more about Stalingrad.
It seems the best way to make sure you have a 3 star infantry would be to temporarily change Makorin to an Inf for Stalingrad.
If you want to have that upgrade option, he should then be in infantry class at the end of GC 42.8 "Buzinovka Depot". Switching him to transport mode as a towed AT gun would satisfy that requirement.
So Makorin would have to be a towed AT gun at the start of "Buzinovka Depot".
If you want to keep him as a Semovente for GC 42.7 "Ilovlya", he has then to be in AT mode at the last turn of "Ilovlya".

GC 42.7 "Ilovlya" end => Makorin in AT mode (which is in AT class)
GC 42.8 "Buzinovka Depot" start => Makorin upgraded to a towed AT gun
GC 42.8 "Buzinovka Depot" end => Makorin switched to transport mode (which is in infantry class)
GC 42.9 "Storming Stalingrad" start => Makorin upgraded to Std Wehrmacht infantry
