Order of Battle: Allies Defiant - Announced

Post by ledrobi »

Order of Battle is getting a new trilogy of DLCs that depicts World War 2 from the Allied perspective. Allies Defiant, the first chapter, deals primarily with the British involvement in battles across Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa from spring 1940 to late 1942.

Allies Defiant will be released on January 28th. We are currently looking for beta testers willing to provide us with feedback and criticism on the new campaign. If you would like to take part in it, please sign up here.

In the first battle the player takes command of British units deployed to Norway, but as the war intensifies on the Western Front in May 1940, the next two scenarios feature defensive battles in Belgium and France.

Afterwards the campaign moves to North Africa, where British forces battle Axis troops in Egypt and Libya. In spring 1941 the player gets to fight the crucial naval battle at Cape Matapan in the Mediterranean Sea, before they are reassigned to participate in the defence of Greece.

The last stage of Allies Defiant focuses again on the desert war, which changed dramatically with the arrival of Rommel's Afrikakorps. Since the Desert Fox managed to drive the Allies back into Egypt in 1942, the player has to deplete enemy offensive strength before he can finally resume offensive operations themselves. Allowing them to deal Axis forces a decisive defeat at El Alamein.

And as usual there are a few new unit and commander goodies in the campaign.
Always nice for us tinkerers and I guess for players as well.

Great news. Really like the campaign path from Norway to France and then North Africa (and next DLC's I assume Sicily, Italy, Normandy, Antwerp, Arnhem/Market Garden).

Loving the idea about playing smaller and more dynamic battles in this trilogy. The German/Soviet DLCs were too grindy and monotonic at the Eastern Front (even if that was reality).

You really get a sense that it is a world war with the changing theaters. I'm looking forward to when Canadians are introduced. Perhaps a Battle of the Atlantic.

Hello
Until the age of 23, I lived near Rouen. I know Dieppe and its beach well. As well as the memorial dedicated to the Canadians who fell on that same beach. Honestly, if you can find pictures of this beach and not even see it with your own eyes, you can understand the word "butchery" better. It was impossible to do. Later, the Anglo-Canadians liberated Rouen. Only one word: THANK YOU.
Greetings from France.

The navalpictures doesn´t show any core navalunits, so I guess this is a further removal from the original core, naval, air concept that made this game really unique.

That´s unfortunate.

I had hoped this would have more of a priority, especially since we´re leaving the "eastfront" theater.

It wouldn´t even have to be in the same scope as the original SEA theater, but just an integrated part with some occasional navalscenarios, beachsupport and the like, and a smaller naval core. It would pose some interesting choices on the players part as to how much to invest in the naval side and be great for diversity and replayability. It could even be just a separate arm like the SS.

Core naval units needs a about 50/50 naval/land-campaign like the two original ones.
In a primarily land campaign with the odd naval scenario naval core units are really not neccessary in my opinion.
Maybe someone creates a Royal Navy campaign at some point (similar to the Kriegsmarine campaign).

I really hope they dont spend time on a Royal Navy Campaign, as Kriegsmarine was a weak DLC and IMO an awful DLC. Played it once and never see myself playing it again.

The naval aspect needs to be integrated in some form or manner in a "normal" DLC like in the original, but as I wrote above IMO it could be in a more minor form to create more choice, diversity and replayability.

Sad to say, but I agree. That's about the reason why I stopped playing RedStorm somewhere in the middle. While well made, as always, it felt very repetitive in a similar way like the Endsieg DLC after playing the previous two.

Therefore I'm very delighted playing the custom NewBritain and SeaLion campaigns right now. Nice combination of the three branches. Naval engagements, amphibious landings and enough land/air battles...
