Help in DLC 39

Post by jonpfl »

All,

Can someone give me a little help in the 3rd scenario in this DLC?

It is the one after Danzig which I believe is Lodz. I am running out of time and wondering if I am approaching it the wrong way. I know they have a big city center with 3 concrete structures which is where I am getting hung up. Should I just ignore those and try to sneak around?

Also, what should I do with my armor units in the lower right? Should I just try to keep them alive until I get help there or should I use them to try and get the airfield/cities?

Thx

Yes, you are not supposed to assault Lodz from the front, but from the rear, as suggested in the briefing. Actually, the auxiliary units you have to save (should you go for the decisive victory) are scouts from the 10th army and have uncovered the weakness of the Lodz fortification system.

An encirclement works well, with a force going north of the city to take the far objectives, and another going south, relieving the 10 army and taking Lodz from the rear, bypassing the defenses, but other strategies can work as well, provided you avoid attacking those heavy bunkers.

As for the allies, you'd better wait until your army can join up with them just to be safe. If you can get some support (stukas ...), you could use them offensively with caution, but at this point in the grand campaign, those unsupported light tanks are not terribly effective at taking cities.

A word of warning, don't go further north than your northmost victory objective, as you could trigger the massive army beeing marshalled at Kutno (foreshadowing for the next scenario :) )

Can those bunkers attack? I got close to them and they never seemed to fire on me

Thx

It has been a while, so I am not quite sure, but I don't think so. All victory hexes are at least one step farther from them anyway, so you don't even need to put units adjacent to them.

As far as I remember if they aren't attacked they won't do it.
