Small issue with the randomized tech tree

Post by Melrik »

I just purchased the game and I really enjoy it. I have only played one game, but I wanted to post this.
I chose to play my first game and go for a research victory. So I chose the Togra as my Faction.
I ended up with a research tree that was very heavy on military before I could even get into general development or research specific areas. I did not write down the specifics, but I had to research a special ammunition before I could research a food production benefit. Would you please look into smoothing this out a little bit? Possibly similar to Endless Space where you still have the 4 major branches but randomize the order in each branch not the entire tree.

I think I like it better this way; the fact that it's full random means you have to make those kinds of decisions. You can't start the game with a set upon strategy for what to research, or even what tree to research. It forces you to plan out short term goals rather than go for a completely optimized run.

I like the randomization the way it is too. This way I often need to adapt my strategies and priorities according to the research tree, instead of having everything pre-planned from the start. While each faction has its own bonuses suited for different victory conditions, the research tree (and the map, of course) could end up being better suited for trying to achieve a different victory condition than initially expected. Map layout does tend to play heavier role in this, but research tree can have a fair impact too.
