To be honest this is a bit silly question, like which is better a bicycle or a frigate? They are completely different. If you want a detailed simulation of the world during WW2 period where you can play as any country that existed, change minsters in the government, direct military (at divisional level), spying, technology, government policies, economy etc go for HOI.
If you want a highly enjoyable WW2 game, that is great to play and does not require 10+ hours of learning how to play it and one game of it does not take a few weeks go for CEAW.

Considering one is real time, the other turn based. One is non hex regions and one is hex based. One is global, and one is theatre specific.
Well you either want one game or the other. Asking for a comparison is pointless. It's not bicycles or porches. It's more like comparing a boat and a helicopter.
Personally, even though it will look fanboyish coming from a person here, I wouldn't touch HoI if it was offered to me free.

HOI is not exactly real time. You issue orders while the game is paused (the game pauses automatically on events chosen by the user) and they only unfold in real time. This is pretty realistic and at the same time you can think as long you want. Just to clear things up.lesthesarge wrote:Considering one is real time, the other turn based. And if we're going into personal opinions no other game portraits WW2 as faithfully as HOI. That said the investment of required to play it make it a game not for everyone.
