I don't have the game, I am considering it as I am a sucker for 4X games. If I do buy it I will from Matrix since I have an account there, or from GOG if you ever release it there.
My question, I read that the game is very linear in some parts with one point in particular that there is some final "big boss" type that to destroy you need a specific weapon type and nothing else will do.
Now I don't consider have a "boss" that has specific weakness as a bad thing per se, but if you have to develop your ships and your whole research just to get that specific weapon, it makes me wonder if and how much that hurts the freedom in the game.
Can anyone please provide some feedback on this?

Re: Single Question (spoilers)
At the start of the game you can decide whether you want an "external threat" to appear in the later stages of the game. This threat is an alien race arriving in the galaxy and attacking everyone, much like the Antarans in Master of Orion II. While the developer has stated that one particular weapon is especially effective against their ships it's certainly not the only weapon. The external threat forces you to forge alliances with AI races and to master the tactical combat, but there's a variety of options.efthimios wrote:I don't have the game, I am considering it as I am a sucker for 4X games. As you can completely turn this alien race of it doesn't hurt your freedom at all.

Thank you very much.
EDIT: Just ordered it from Matrix (cause DRM-free = only sane option)
