Game freezes - can't save

Hi,

This happened on occasion but now it's consistent. The game freezes up. I loaded up the last good save, but as soon as I save a new file - it freezes. (it does create a savegame entry, but that doesn't work if I try to load it)

I've attached the dxdiag file, but cannot upload the savegame because it's too big!

Are you running Steam or the stand anlove version? What's the game installation path in your hard drive?

I am running the Steam version.

Path is :

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Polaris Sector

I've tried a few other save games that load - but then freeze when saving.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems with your game. Please try first Step 1 and if the issue still persists try Step 2.


Step 1: Run the game as Administrator

- Right-click the game in your Steam Library.
- Go to Properties, then to the Local Files tab.
- Click Browse Local Files.
- Locate the game executable (the application file).
- Right-click it and go to Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab.
- Check the "Run this program as an administrator" box.
- Click Apply. Having done this, restart Steam and try launching the game again.


Step 2: Run Steam as Administrator

- Navigate your Steam installation file (By default, it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam).
- Right-click the Steam executable.
- Follow the above steps to set it to Run as Administrator.
- Restart Steam.

Does it now freeze even after you start a new game and then save it? Or only the latest save causes the freeze?

If the latest, it will help if you send me that saved game to ufnv@mail.ru

If it always freezes when saving (even after the new game), then it is something to do with the file system or user rights.

BTW, "occasional" freeze can be related with autosaving if it freezes while trying to save the game.

Hello,

I tried the advice regarding adding admin priv to steam and then to the Polaris sector game. I was able to open the save file in question and was able to save after that. I thought that was the issue since it never worked after that before. I was able to play a while, and it autosaved and saved properly a few times. Then it froze again, and the last save freezes when I load it and try to save.

When I meant it 'froze occasionally' - it meant that periodically it would stop working. There was no crash, but the screen froze and never recovered. No CPU activity. However in the past I was able to continue playing. It seems when I hit this condition now, saving any game after that causes the freeze to occur.

If I work my way back to previous save games, I am able to open them and save.

I will send over my latest save game file that loads, but I am unable to save after that. Hopefully you can see something.

Thanks, I've found the cause. It's clearly a bug, happens when you start upgrading the ship assigned to some rally point. In your case there are a lot of fighters doing such upgrade.

I've fixed the bug for the next patch and will fix the save itself and send it to you.
