Re: Admiral's Alternate Arsenal (3A) VOTE! CR.32 colors!
I like mods, but I need WW2 mods to be combatible with the standard game. That is, playing an official scenario should work without quirks.
If the mod adds units, fine. But a scenario using ie new units must be played within the mod. That means the mod should/must be updated with new game versions.
Special mods like the Spanish and Korean are different beasts as they are made for a specific situation.
But I guess they should be updated to work with new game versions as well.

Making scenarios or campaigns incorporating new units is more complicated than simply making a mod compatible with the latest game update usable for any official or usermade scenarios or campaigns

Well... that's a understandable concern, however AAA is exactly a mod that is fully compatible with the stock game. I did not remove anything, I just added more I though were missing.
Even in graphics, I decided to modify stock units and use stock textures - not because of I could not make better given the given free time - but exactly because I want them to blend in the stock game. Like if they were stock units from the start. That's another story that they are not needed...
I make AAA compatible with current OOB, then the scenario or campaign based on AAA will be also compatible... or at least I think so, maybe I'm wrong

Yep, I know a game update means updating the modded units.csv-file etc.terminator wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 4:24 pm Making scenarios or campaigns incorporating new units is more complicated than simply making a mod compatible with the latest game update usable for any official or usermade scenarios or campaigns
Not trivial work (for me anyway ).

New units
Is it also possible to create units from a complete other era? Something like Ancient Roman units? and incorporate them in the game myself? And of course create my own scenario's with them?

Hi,
I'm a long time fan of this game and want to try to lift it to another level.
I want to create new units from other era's (like ancient romans or civil war units for example). Now I know how to make them since I'm a graphic designer, but I can't find an easy explanation on how to implement new units to the game.
I'm sure there is somewhere a guide on how to do this, but I can't find it.
Another issue I have is that I'm not sure how to implement the new units, which are already available.
I would appreciate an answer since I think with my ideas we can turn this game into one of the best games.

Hi,
Unfortunately, we can only export vehicles, and objects that does not include animations. Infantry and cavalry therefore is out of the picture(
Technically we can create infantry, chariot... etc - but they will be standing like chess figures.
Creating new unit is not so difficult, you need to create a new mod, and there you can handle everything. I think there's a tutorial on the exporter script for 3DS Max in the sticky section.
You may ask details of course... there are dozens of minor annoying details to keep in mind

Do you mean with animations, the tiny movements each unit makes? If so I don't mind that too much. I was only wondering if I can add a let's say Union or Confederate soldier. I realize it will take some of the charm away from the game, but still.
What I really would like is to create a campaign spanning several ages. Now I realize this will be a huge effort, but since I currently have nothing else to do...
I will try to find the post on 3DS Max.
And about those annoying details... Having worked with Photoshop for 20 years now, I'm used to them
I'm sure I will run into questions. Any idea who to ask them or in what thread?

A good place to start your mod would be taking a look at teh official Battle of Britain mod, available from the Crate.
This mod has a few new units (well, new at the time) and you should be able to see how these are organised.
It will download into your My Games...Mods folder.

Maybe the developers will listen to you. After all, they already included some Pacific campaigns. The main issue is that you always need to buy them seperately.

Why not buy it if they do everything beautifully and transfer it from the old game and add new chips and fitches )

It's a company and they need the money. But I'm learning right now on how to make scenario's and campaigns so maybe I will surprise you... but it might take some time, since I only started with it yesterday

I was thinking about your idea, and it can be done. Not in the form stock OOB is, but like a board game with static "chess" figures.jagularbob wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 9:19 pm But I'm learning right now on how to make scenario's and campaigns so maybe I will surprise you... but it might take some time, since I only started with it yesterday
I can help with implementing graphics, combat concept and with game engine related stuff (simulating ancient combat, etc) I might also require help with graphics and modeling as Im not an expert in that.
