I always use two or three airborne regiments, as I love the Fallschirmjager in general. Two important things to consider: Firstly, don't paradrop them in every mission. Yeah, perhaps it would be best, as someone said, to make them a switching unit like the Sahariani or LRDG, with (some) combat capability even when mounted. The halftracks and trucks are currently just death traps...

one idea for PC2 that occurred to me while reading this thread - you could introduce adjacency bonuses for units when certain unit is nearby (next hex), which would benefit the well organized armies - so let say tank unit would get CD increased if own infantry unit is nearby, Infantry could have GD...
