Re: Quality of life: Decadence in region

Obviously, this was made using paint in 5 minutes, but you get the idea. This game is amazing, but some quality of life improvements would be welcome both for understanding everything that happens and making the game less daunting for new players. You do realize you are more likely to get your sugg...

Re: After 300 h: Issues and hints on Empires

Few games are exploit free. * The more complex a game, the more the opportunity for exploits. * The longer a game, the more the opportunity for exploits. Many grand strategy games attempt some form of snow balling prevention: TW - everyone declares war on you at some threshold. EU4 - coalitions form...

Re: After 300 h: Issues and hints on Empires

WWII was the first war in history where more died from combat than disease.

I am not sure if that would be true if only the Pacific Theater was considered, since tropical diseases played a very significant role.

But we remember wars for combat. Seemingly, there is little glory in dying of Cholera.

Yes. Now, you really have the tools you need to play the trade mini-game.

All those little bonuses add up over 500 years.

Great Feature: Reverse Bonus Lookup

Pocus, I was honestly going to ask for this, but I figured not to be greedy! :) I had tried playing for a few hours checking what other region were missing before picking my building choices from the trade overlay, BUT JUST TOO TEDIOUS. So, I gave up and left perfect trade decisions to the gods. THA...

Re: Total War

The whole problem is one of INTENT. Pocus is not going code a neural net so that diplomacy understands INTENT. So there is a given ACTION1, but there could be many reasons for doing so. The real question is: what is the INTENT of ACTION1? My example of manipulating diplomacy. I went to war against M...

Do you like randomized build options? Why?

I will go first as I raised the question. I believe Pocus said this is done to create play variety and specialization. I find there are two other ways this goal has been achieved. * Limiting build spots based on fortress size as per some of the TW games. * Making conditional build trees such that yo...

Re: My take on exporting battles

I stopped exporting after my first game. I found that part of the beauty of FOGE is that it is a grand strategy game which play quite fast if you let it; despite 500 turns. In terms of auto resolve fights, they are, in fact, fun and exciting. My complements to Pocus; I have never see this done so we...

Bug - Transact away allied objectives

I as Rome's ally was able to transact away to the owning state Rome's objective for money (I think the owning state proposed this transaction.) It appeared to work, but I don't think the money was credited to me as I didn't see my treasury bump; maybe Rome's did.

Re: Time and Space in FOG and AJE

Thanks. I have been eye-ballling that civil wargame. To be fair, there were many games produced off this engine beginning with BOA Birth of America in 2006 which has a later version WIA Wars in America. The second game the ACW was redone later as CW2. But it has been debated which is superior for v...

Re: I was led to believe that I could "play tall"?

I think the first thing to do is ask what the game is trying to accomplish in terms of establishing victory conditions? There are games such as EU4 that really have no official victory conditions. There are other games like the TW series that tend to have map painting oriented victory conditions. Bo...

They are still available for Slitherine and well worth buying during a Winter Sale or your anniversary coupon.

Re: Time and Space in FOG and AJE

Alea Acta Est = AJE It is or more or less the same engine upon which the second generation AGEOD (pre-Slitherine) were based on; hand coded by Pocus in the DELPHI IDE. The engine and its expansions cover about 25 Roman conflicts. Minimally, there are two factions 2 play and sometimes 3. Turns are on...

How do I stop the people next door from breaking in?

I am constantly raided by neighbors. How can I put an end to this? I heard that if I but better relations to +25, they will stop. But that can get expensive, especially when they already hate you. If I raise my defense level will I win the raids? If I retaliate will they stop? What to do? Thanks.

Diplomatic lag does funny things!

I am Massalia. Rome is my ally. Celticci was pulled into a war with me due to a chain events. Rome takes their two provinces and they take two provinces from me. Now, before they lost their homeland to Rome, I offered a white peace. They accept after losing their home land. End result, they held two...

Re: Diplomacy seems a little week to me?

Well, in reality, I just wanted to try the option, but was ready to quit the current game ... so, I tried it. Around turn #150 or so. But when, I saw I got all that I lost back, and was now shielded. It was exactly what I needed to win the game. Kind of like "drafting" in car racing, when you follow...
