Re: GS 3.1 Docs
"CommanderEuropeAtWarGrandStrategy-SetupRelease-300.exe" installs and runs, but the 3.1 mod won't run. The splash screen(s) display but it won't start and no log file is created <sigh>. I have a Win7 x64 game box with a couple of high-res monitors.

Re: GS 3.1 Docs
I think I found it ( GS Manual 3.1.pdf ) dated Sept 21, 2014 which would correspond to CommanderEuropeAtWarGrandStrategy-UpdateComp-v310.zip Sorry, again. So I hope I can just make a backup copy of my current installation folder ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Slitherine\Commander Europe At War Grand Strat...

GS 3.1 Docs
It's been awhile guys, sorry, but I'd like to see a concise description of the changes for 3.1 before I install the update and possibly mess up my 2.1 update.
The .org FTP site doesn't seem to be available anymore for pdf downloads.
Is there a new location for manuals?

D-Day Redux
It's that time year again (mostly) where we here in the US commemorate the great, war-winning D-Day landings (overlooking the great Soviet offensive against Army Group Center, which could be argued was equally decisive). In any case, the newsreels emphasize how the Allies cut the entire rail system ...

Yes, but after the war the USAF did a complete study of its tactical and strategic bombing campaigns. They actually went out and counted the destroyed targets and correlated this with the sorties flown and tactics used. I read the study in hard cover at an Air Force library, but I believe its on the...

3) After the huge losses of 41 (over 4 million men) the Soviets didn't have enough time to train the troops that they desperately needed to stop the Germans. Over the course of the war their INF quality varied quite a bit. by 44-45 there were well trained and equipped units with alot of experience t...

2) The Shock armies from Siberia were pretty effective in 41. They had been sent to the far east to guard against Japanese attacks from Manchuria and were regarded as the best in the Red Army. I don't believe their commanding officers were purged in the late thirties. However after the winter fighti...

1) There are accounts even in 40 and 41 of tac inflicting enormous damage on armoured units in good weather in clear terrain. The Stukas were especially effective. During the Battle of Kiev in 41, a panzer regiment was caught without aircover and virtually wiped out. By 44, the western allies had 4 ...

Actually several invasions failed badly in Crimea. From both sides. Sorry, I was referring to the western allies. I'm not aware of any tactical amph Axis landings in the Crimea. I do know there were small scale Soviet landings in support of the besieged Sevastopol garrison in 42 (Manstein's memoirs...

Johann is a brilliant game developer! I wish we could somehow make it worth his while for him to keep developing and extending his code. Obviously he can't make a living on free mods. He has another game but that's outside the scope of this forum. If you check out his early posts (Ian too), its clea...

Does Anybody Still Use TCP/IP?
We love it, but we've had some glitches, requiring, um....workarounds.
Would anyone consider a game server, making quick game play possible?
Or is that just for the first-person shooter stuff?

Thanks for the replies! So, is this tactic still effective with the latest mod (2.1)? The Soviets in the 1939 scenario will start with at least 10 MECHs, and then they desperately buy ARMs and ARM techs before Barbarossa. But I guess the Germans will have superior ARM techs and lots of TAC and will ...

This is a great proposal. Yes, CEAW isn't a logistical game, but logistics most certainly had strategic/operational impact on the war. Some have said that the Western Allies' greatest weapons were the 6x6 truck, the C-47 cargo plane and the Liberty transport ship. We have an LST docked here in Michi...

you looked at games when he was the Axis you saw him get past Moscow in 1941 using his armor and mech blob strategy Can someone explain exactly what this blob strategy is? In previous posts it was described as a sort of hack or exploit. Other posts refer to it as a valid tactic. I think I've seen i...

Thanks for your reply! My impression of the histories I've read is that the affects of the purges lasted well into 42. It took time to retrain officers and redo the fighting manuals. Rokossovsky and other officers had to be pulled out of a gulag. The Germans' problems had alot to do with logistics. ...

It looks like you're not using the map editor to do your changes. Are the GS map changes done in code? There doesn't seem be an OOB list in the txt settings files. I guess these are in the scn files? I'd like to mod the initial strength of the Soviet units to better reflect the devastation of Stali...

Yes, both US and USSR can build units and purchase labs before going to war. Not sure about the historical justification for a USSR mobilization in Oct 41. Is this for the ahistorical case where Germany doesn't attack in June 41? I've noticed that the USSR's War Effort goes up very fast after German...
