Commander Pacific at War : I had a dream...
I come late to this game, because for a long time the demo did not work on my Pc and in result, I had no personnal informations about it. But the more I explore it, the more I think it's a very GREAT PC wargame. Now, it would ne nice to have in 2013-2014 (?) a "Commander Pacific at war". And in 2015-2016, a "Commander : World in war ("in war", because "World at war" is no a free title
) : in this 3° game, we would find the 2 war theaters on the screen, Europe and Pacific, with junctions organization rules, and a global scenario-map editor with lots of functions. I had a dream...

My dream was not to have an entire world map, that has no sens in ww2 context and game scale, but only the europe man and the Pacific map, the both connected by a special communication system of "loops" (as it exists always in the game for Kiel canal) : i.e. if a fleet enter in the "south atlantic loop hex", this fleet will appears again on Pacific map 3, or 4, or 5 turns after (depending of scale, its just an exemple),etc. It would be great !
If 2 maps on the same screen would be impossible (too large), may be could we have 2 separated map screens, with a button to go on the choiced map for action. And other : ressources collected in Pacific Map will need 3 or 4 turn to be creditd in Europe countries (delay of transports, etc). I think Slitherine should work in this direction : we would have probably the best PC wargame never made for WW2, and it would be not so difficult to balance it : the work for Europe is made, Slitherine has just a little work
to do for Pacific map and to create loops maps connexions". In my dream, I saw a green forum, with the thread : "Slitherine is proude to announce "Commander : World war 2 Europe & Pacific theaters ". In my dream, I saw Stauffenberg too : he was attached with a chain to a computer and he worked for a GS 3.0 Europe+Pacific under the supervision of a Japanese soldier. Perhaps should I to consult some doctor...

That could work, although balancing both theatres could be tricky and victory conditions would need to be revised. Also, more diplomatic options would be required, e.g. the possibility of early US war entry, JAP-SOV skirmishes or no Pearl Harbour. Some restrictions should also be in place in order to prevent the UK from moving all troops from India and Australia to Europe, which would not only be unrealistic, but it would also destroy balance. Same for Manchuria, because Japan shouldn't be allowed to use all troops in China without consequences (JAP-SOV war?). I won't even mention the fact that Sino-Japanese War is one of hardest conflicts to represent accurately, especially if we want Japan to fight both China and the Allies in most games. Some sort of loyalty system for the Chinese troops would need to be implemented and the relations between the Communists and Nationalists should be shaky so that both factions would have to guard their common border.
This would be a massive undertaking.

Unfortunately Commander Pacific at War won't happen with the current game engine because we simply only have permission to modify Commander Europe at War. We're bound to the existing map. This is actually quite logical because if you make a CPAW you generate a new game that could have been sold and generate income for Slitherine and FirepowerJohan.
So we can only fine tune CeaW and that's it.
I don't know what Slitherine has in mind for a Pacific WW2 game. There certainly is a market for it. If it happens in the future I guess it will happen with a different game engine. Lordz, the developer of Panzer Corps, seems like a good candidate to make such a game.

Johann is a brilliant game developer! I wish we could somehow make it worth his while for him to keep developing and extending his code. Obviously he can't make a living on free mods. He has another game but that's outside the scope of this forum. If you check out his early posts (Ian too), its clear they were pretty excited about a great product!
