Re: WTC CHAMPIONS ARE TANG
Congratulations to the Tang team! Even though Pershing's Pikes beat them head-to-head in the initial Group A round, the Tang team improved their game (and had better maps) to beat the Pershing's Pikes team in the finals. Well done!
Perhaps even more importantly, thanks to the organizers for all their work and a well-run tournament!

Re: WTC CHAMPIONS ARE TANG
It's great to know that, and I'm very proud of the team and excited for all the great battles in this WTC. I was in charge of the reserve in this tournament and I'm glad I didn't get a chance to play: it shows that my friends did their best and there were no unforeseen circumstances that prevented them from playing.
As angusosborne said, FOG2 or ancient wargames are traditionally not so "Chinese", so I am also very happy that when recruiting WTC teammates, Chinese players actively and enthusiastically participated and finished the tournament, not only Tang, but also Qin and Han players. Thank you all for your enthusiastic participation and support.
I'm sorry I'm still on the train, and I don't really want to write a "sample essay" thanking everyone, so I'll end this quickly and briefly, thanking you to everyone on the forums and to the organisers of the tournament for giving us a stage to show off the art of war. Hopefully the FOG series and other ancient war games will become more popular.
Best,
Wang
Easter egg:As is usually the case with movies promoting Eastern culture, I'm going to stuff a quote from a highbrow ancient Chinese celebrity here:

“Formation before engagement, this is what military textbooks always say. How to use it on the battlefield ,that can only depend on your heart.”

Re: WTC CHAMPIONS ARE TANG
I very much enjoyed the competition and it was a pleasure to captain the Armchair Heroes Team. Thanks to my colleagues Kroche, IMC and ericdoman1 for being so supportive and encouraging.
I do hope there is another one next year and thanks to the organisers, angusosborne, Triarii and ericdoman1.
Last but not least congratulations to team Tang on becoming the new WTC champions.

Re: WTC CHAMPIONS ARE TANG
On the road again for Christmas, but if we’re sharing, I just received a book on Xingyi boxing (since I’ve been getting into boxing as my exercise program this year) from my family. Good stuff and a very interesting read.kronenblatt wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 10:05 pm Just got a very interesting and promising book for Christmas:

Congrats to Tang, and I look forward to a rematch next year.

Re: WTC CHAMPIONS ARE TANG
After returning from their Christmas holiday Slitherine have handed out vouchers for USD 35 to the winners and USD 25 for second and third placed teams. Thank you!
The players should all have received a PM from me with the details. Please contact me if you have not.

Happy to play if it is a Swiss. If it is the same rules as last time then I am out.

WTC Agenda 2024 - 16 Teams
Greetings Gentlemen
We would require, team names, emblems, captains and players to be posted in https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=116186
PLease post them as soon as possible (ASAP) as they will be needed when we know of the date of the LIve Draw.
For WTC 2024, we will have 16 teams
World Team Championship - 3 x UK & Ireland teams, 2 x French, 2 x USA, 3 x Chinese, 2 x Italian, 1 x New Zealand , 1 x Spanish and 2 x ROTW.
We have included something new for WTC 2024 and that is team captains will send their team name, country, captains name, players, armies and periods via private message to the relevant organiser, see below.
Example
Team Name - Forlorn Hope (Australia)
Period 1 - Mr White - Mitanni
Period 2 - Mr Pink (Captain) - Ancient Briton
Period 3 - Mr Black - Illyrian
Period 4 - Mr Brown - Alan
Below is which organiser is looking after which countries.
Eric - UK (3), China (3), ROTW (2)
Angus - USA (2), NZ (1), Italy (2), France (2),
Ander will be organising Spain (1)
16 teams in total.
Group Stage
We will have 3 rounds, all games to be played in 5 weeks
Only 1 team from one nation will play in each group of 4 teams. So you will not have 2 or even 3 teams of the same nation playing in the same group.
10th September to 15th October
Top 2 go through to the quarter finals.
Knockout Stage
Quarter Final
17th October to 5 November
Semi Final
7 November to 26 November
Final
28 November to 17 December
Cheers
Mike, Angus, Ander and Eric
