Re: TDC VI Early Medieval - Results
Captainwaltersavage Portugese 1200-1319 with Berber (Marinid) defeats heidipie irish 1260 with anglo irish
60:45
A very tricky battle for both sides. The battle was dominated by the high hill on the right flank, lots of rough and difficult terrain. The Irish army swarmed into the hills with their massive numbers. Contested by only light troops as the bulk of the Portuguese army stayed on the flat ground in the centre. The Irish swept away the light troops in front of them but were slowed down by some desperate defending as slingers fought elite irish troops on steep hillsides. This allowed some cavalry to race around on my left to get behind the mass of medium troops. There then became a battle of two parts as the Irish sent their heavy Galloglaich warriors down onto the plain to contend with the Portuguese spearmen. Whilst up on the hill the remaining light troops , supported by medium cavalry tried to distract delay and destroy any Irish troops out of position. The masses of irish medium troops supported the charge of the heavy infantry and started destroying the Portuguese infantry in quick order. A few heroics by some raw spearmen and, in what is now a common theme, the knights kept in reserve by the Portuguese charged in to save the flank. A very chaotic battlefield on the hills allowed the jinetes to shine as they hit flanks and disrupted numerous Irish units. No one aspect led to victory - cumulative marginal gains tipped the balance. A very exciting battle right till the end.

Stones1985 (Elamite with Babylonian Allies) beat GDod (Spartan with Roman Allies) by a score of 40 to 3.
The Spartan/Romans just couldn't handle the Elamite bow fire and crumbled early. Thanks for the game.

Division A
Stones1985 (Elamite with Babylonian Allies) beat Karvon (Carthaginian with Spanish Allies) by a score of 53 to 24.
Again the Elamite bow power proved decisive. They got off to good start but things looked a little shaky as the Carthaginians got their spears into melee but the Elamites pulled through. Good game. Thanks.

Since the last table 3 wins from Stones1985 and 2 from klayeckles have been posted making it look like a three horse race for top spot. Stones1985 has put himself in a great position with points on the board having played 2 games more than rivals. Karvon leads the chasing pack as the only player outside top 3 with a win. Plenty of matches remaining for fortunes to change for those chasing.

Division B
principesromanes (Cimmerian 750-600 BC with Mannaean allies) defeats Bagatrix1806 (Philistine 800-600 BC with Egyptian allies) 60-39
The Cimmerian horse archers managed to pick apart the Philistine force on a largely open battlefield. After the Cimmerian horse archers took out most of the Philistine archers, they were able to concentrate fire more easily to find some softer targets while avoiding the Foot Guards and Gibborim.
Thanks for the game!

Division B
principesromanes (Cimmerian 750-600 BC with Mannaean allies) defeats ulysisgrunt (Lydian 687-551 BC) 45-17
The Cimmerian army took a significant contingent of irregular foot as well as the usual horse archers in order to contest a patch of rough ground in the centre. The largely hopilite based Lydian army was unable to effectively counter. Meanwhile, the hoplites and Lydian cavalry were pushing strongly on the other flank. A unit of Commerian heavy chariots and some helpfully positioned woods to break up the attack were able to hold off the Lydian onslaught long enough to secure a victory.
Note that we set up this game improperly (map size was 26 x 32) but decided to play it anyway. It made it exciting, with combat occurring in the very first turn!
