Excellent, see you in Multiplayer. 2x2 is great fun, be sure to download Erik2's scenarios.

Re: Looking for PBEM plays
Hi guys, I'm also planning to join multiplayer soon.
Wanted to ask:
is there a multiplayer map to play something Pacific, with large distances, so that only bombers can reach the other side of the map, and fleets an easily miss each other, but also 3-5 large enough islands, so that ships cannot bombard the interior? I'm kind of missing the grand strategic aspect in this game, but love everything else.
Thanks

Re: Looking for PBEM plays
Sounds like one of my favourite maps, but could be very difficult to find. Belive it's called War in the Pacific. There were 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2 versions, I preferred the 1 vs 1 because with more players it takes longer and there's a greater risk of someone quitting. Huge map with an excellent balance, maybe 60 percent navy, 30 percent air and 10 percent land? Takes place over the entire course of the war so all the new units gradually become available. However at least one of those two versions has been taken down and possibly both. Not sure why as although Erik has made a ton of great maps personally I consider that his finest work. Obviously there are other naval maps out there but a lot of them use auxilliary units which can't be replaced and that limits things in my opinion.

Hey thanks,
sorry for the late answer, somehow it didn't show me any notifications.
That map sounds nice.
I have also made my own map like this in the meantime

But not sure when it will be approved / announced so I can test it..

You can always just let others know about the existence of your map and have them download and playtest it. These days I'm mostly playing Warhammer 40K : Rogue Trader. Pretty fun!

Tired of Order of Battle? I am actually ignoring other games for the sake of Order of Battle at the moment

Re: Looking for PBEM plays
If someone reached out to me with a good map I'd probably say yes. But I feel like the community is really shrinking, which is only fair as no game stays prominent forever. One of the better things about Order of Battle is how I can turn off the sound and listen to my favourite radio programs without it impacting anything important.

Re: Looking for PBEM plays
I tried Panzer Corp before Order of Battle and wasn't impressed. That one was absurdly reliant on random number generation, with maps so small things like tactics never really came into play. The single player campaign was essentially impossible as near as I could determine, at least if you wanted to do things successfully. Panzer General was fun at the time, but these days is very obsolete sadly. Hearts of Iron I and II aren't directly comparable as they're real time rather than turn based, but dang did I love them. Hearts of Iron III was a horror show however. It had worse than no documentation, the "tutorial" was actually a troll. Left an extremely bad taste in my mouth and even after I resorted to relying on youtube videos to figure out how to play, it was inexcuseably broken. As in submarines being impossible to detect no matter how big your fleet, what its composition was or what technologies you've researched. To say nothing of the political and tech systems (a wonderful highlight of the first two games) being big steps backwards. Infuriating. Obviously my knowledge of military strategy games is far from comprehensive but if there's something better than OoB out there I'm not aware of it.
Anyway once you've gotten some experience under your belt let me know if you want to play something by Parreigo. Perriego? Erik is always looking for people to help playtest his maps and he does great work as well.

I have only tried Hearts of Iron 4. None of the games you've mentioned.
We are currently testing Erik's new Holland 2 vs 2 actually.
And I have looked at most of Parriego's games I think. The size is fine with me, but I don't really like that you get the units placed for you in all of them. I find it takes away replayability and especially individual strategies.
So I have actually started making my own maps, all with free deployment. Could you have a look and let me know what you think?
Thanks

Re: Looking for PBEM plays
If you play as the Germans in Parriego's Prokhorovska scenario it's all core units of your choice. You start with something like 2000 requisition points and spend it as you see fit, getting a small amount each turn to use for repairs and, if you're cautious, even replacing a unit or two. Glad to hear you're testing Erik's Holland map

Excellent! You can find it here...

Let me know when it's set up and I'll be happy to play as Russia. Now I just have to try and remember how to actually play, heh.

it's online. The password is 132
Looks like a map with too little space and too many units, might end up in a frontal slugging match. But if you say it's good, why not, let's try

Re: Looking for PBEM plays
I'd rate it as medium sized but yeah the bulk of the fighting is in the middle, maybe 60 percent there, 15 percent northwest, 15 percent southeast and the rest "elsewhere". And the number of units start dropping pretty quickly, heh. I should warn you that in typical fashion for these things Russia starts out weak but gets stronger with the passage of time. If things feel unbalanced to you I don't mind trying as Germany next, assuming you're up for it. But, I'm probably getting ahead of myself...
