Thirty Years War Danish Phase
There is still one game to finish in the Palatinate round, but following our Christmas and New Year festivities and seasons of goodwill it's time to return to slaughtering people on the field of battle.
It is early August 1627, the Danish King Christian IV has lead an army of Danish, Norwegian, English and mercenaries financed by France into Northern Germany After a major defeat 2 years earlier he is determined on a Protestant victory, partly to maintain his position as the leading Protestant rather than Swedish King Gustav Adolph.
Albrecht von Wallenstein is commanding an army of Imperials (1619 – 1632) against King Christian IV of Denmark commanding a Danish army of the period 1625 – 1629. We Catholics get to play the complete (but so far successful) arsehole against an enlightened (but not totally effective) ruler.
The Rebel commander sets up the battle, large armies, open battle in agricultural terrain, password 1627
Gribol plays Marklesley
Snugglebunnies plays awesum4
TyroneC plays KiwiWarlord
Ironclad plays PeterthePainter
AKVGoeben plays Changdao
Dilly plays AHuyton
Ciberpencho plays SMJohnso77
Doyley50 plays Lascar

Re: Thirty Years War Danish Phase
Snugglebunnies has withdrawn from the tournament.
So I am looking for either a new player to take his place, or a Protestant player who is willing to play two games this round, the second game being against myself. My preference is a new player so could you please ask any opponents you play if they wish to join in.
Otherwise I'll ask for a volunteer in a couple of days

Re: Thirty Years War Danish Phase
Changdao's Imperial Catholic army defeats AKVGoeben's Danish army 37-60
With a largely indecisive cavalry action on the Imperial right, and an advantage on its left flank counterpart, the Imperial infantry surged forward in the center after a very succesful artillery barrage. Eventually, the Danish center right crumbled against their Imperial counterparts. Infantry on both sides on the Imperial center right suffered heavy casualties with a slight Imperial advantage thanks to reinforcements from the center reserve, but just as the Danish cavalry in that flank was going to impose itself their army routed.
Thanks for a very engaging battle that could have gone both ways!

Re: Thirty Years War Danish Phase
PeterThePainter’s Imperial army (1619 -1632) has defeated Ironclad’s Danish army (1625 – 1629), 23 -52.
The Imperial forces had a slight numerical superiority whilst the Danes had more units. The Danes tried to make their superior number of cavalry units on their right count but despite some success there, the Imperial infantry in the centre destroyed sufficient Danish units to conclude the battle.
A close fought battle decided on fine margins (particularly pursuing Imperial inflicting flank attacks on their enemy) . Well played by Ironclad.

Re: Thirty Years War Danish Phase
awesum4 beats an inexperienced Jaerho 8 to 42.
He chose quite a few cavalry while I chose infantry and maximum light horse. I managed to hold up his left wing cavalry wing only a few units, broke up his right wing cavalry with hussars and flank charges and my stronger center out shot his center aided by hussars from my victorious left.
The score doesn't really reflect the game, I got some lucky breaks at crucial moments and his army collapsed.

Re: Thirty Years War Danish Phase
Imperial army (Lascar) defeats Dane army (Doyle50) 10/44. The Imperial army had almost 50% more pike than the Danes which was the major contributor for their victory.

Re: Thirty Years War Danish Phase
The final screen indicated a victory for the Danes, despite the fact that the battle ended due to darkness falling over the battlefield (I don't know if there is an error here).
The bloody scramble ended with losses at 53% of the Danes (gribol) and at 59% of the Imperialists (markleslie).
Thank you for an interesting game.

Re: Thirty Years War Danish Phase
I did get a DEFEAT thing at the end and some guff about having to abandon the field.

Of course I just ignored it as defeatist nonsense and am more than willing to continue the fight at DAWN!

Re: Thirty Years War Danish Phase
The game is programmed to always have a victor, so in cases when the turn limit is reached the "defender" wins by default. Of course, this is a draw.gribol wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 4:54 am The final screen indicated a victory for the Danes, despite the fact that the battle ended due to darkness falling over the battlefield (I don't know if there is an error here).

TyroneC plays KiwiWarlord
Danish win 63-43.
Tough battle, they routed all my arty, cav and light infantry with the help of the hussars. We routed all of their tercios thanks to greater numbers.
Down with the Imperialists, Down with the Tyrants, Down with the Dictators, Say NO to the Populist rabble rousers. Defenestration for those in ivory towers. Freedom for the people !

My Imperialists won against Dilly's Danes, 69-49.
It was a pretty close game throughout and fortunes changed - only in the last couple of turns did my lead start to tell. I thought the Danish infantry would win the day, numerous as they were, but I managed to pick off enough units on the flanks to win the day. Thanks, Dilly, for an interesting and hard fought game.
