Best 4 Hero Combos for

Defensive Infantry Unit to hold position. Defense Tank Unit to limit damage to the unit itself. Heavy Artillery Unit and Heavy Bomber Unit to help in capturing entrenched Forts, cities, Strongpoints, etc. Offensive Infantry Unit. 4 Hero Combo can also contain A Named Unit Specific like Galland, Elsa, Wittman, etc.

You didn't ask specifically about recon cars, but a recon car with:
1. No Retaliation
2. Envelopment
3. Overwhelming Attack
4. Double Attack
...is a brutally efficient contraption! Flexible Command trait for split and more Prestige @ capture.

I use that combo except use Entrenchment Killer3 or 4x. save Double Attack for Artillery and Aircraft

I usually do myself, but find the double auto-surrender recon great for clearing infantry blobs, especially if you run it around with an auto-surrender armored anti-tank :).

An AT unit with the same envelopment/overwhelming attack combo + hit & run. Throw in a Stug or 2 with Shock Tactics and a few more recon cars and infantry blobs disappear faster than you can say "where'd that blob go?"

Two key heroes will be Prudent and Consolidator, but Prudent is the absolutely most important one. It will ensure that the damaged actually strengthens the defensive capabilities and Consolidator with overstrenght gives more health to benefit from the ability. Granted, you do not want to heal such a unit. You leave it damaged and at one point the extra defense gets so high that the infantry is invulnerable to all but the most insanely powerful damage dealers like custom forts or Landkreuzers.

This gives you two more heroes to work with. No Surrender is useful, as it is possible run into trouble if the unit gets heavily suppressed, but not damaged and then hit by a powerful attack. Not available normally, but might by in modded campaigns, is No Retreat, serving a very similar role. If you can, run both. If not, the fourth hero can be either Zero Slots (or at least Reduced Slots), so the side effect of Consolidator is negated. Another option is Vigilant, if you plan to use any other infantry then Pioneers for this type of defensive unit, as normal Infantry does not have as good Close Defense value.

Clear choices are Readiness, Aggressive Counterattack, Low Profile or Evasive, and Resilient. These will make the tank very tough to kill and if you manage to get Survivor on it, it should shine in defensive conditions.

Depends if you want the unit to suppress the target so others can do the job, or destroy such target on its own, this will vary. It will also be different for artillery and planes:

Suppression, artillery: Double Attack, Shock Tactics, Zero Slots, Kloss or Habermann - use on rocket artillery
Destruction, artillery: Double Attack, Lethal Attack, Zero Slots, Kloss or Habermann - use on 21cm artillery, alternative late war is a Sturmtiger. Rocket artillery can work early, but will struggle with late war armor.
Suppression, aircraft: Double Move, Double Attack, Shock Tactics, Lightning Attack - use on strategic bombers
Destruction, aircraft: Double Move, Double Attack, Ignores Entrenchment, Lightning Attack - use on dive bombers, Rudel can replace a few of these heroes giving even more powerful options such as overstrenght

I play with Meticulous Planning and Aggressive Deployment so is Fast Deployment Hero even necessary? if using Pioneer or any of the new Elite Units with Engineer trait is the Ignore Entrenchment double kill also. if those 2 aren't needed, what about Butcher, Crippling Blow, Precision Weapon, etc. love the combo's. I'd forgotten about Prudent. do you find City Fighter worthy of a spot?

For destruction I'd say include Lethal Attack to improve damage dealt, this way strategic bombers can also act as killer unit. I run a Double Attack, Rapid Fire 1.5x, Lethal Attack, Unyielding strategic for destroying light AA units, most of the time it takes out one for each sortie, unless the target is too heavily entrenched on dense terreans. In AO46 I switched the hero combo on the Fritz bomber, replacing Lethal Attack and Unyielding to Double Move and Entrenchment Killer since it does not need to directly engage enemy AA anymore.

You do not need Fast Deployment in that case and can replace it with anything you like - cost reduction, Butcher for extra damage, etc. at this point you're just fine-tuning the unit to your taste as you have key heroes for the role covered already.

I assume you are playing with mods since I don't recall this heroes normally appearing in random pool or in pre assigned base game or AO hero list. In any case, all bonus attack heroes are good, but City Fighter is very map-specific, similar to Flag Killer for example. If I were to give such a defensive or offensive infantry unit any terrain reliant heroes that are from a modded pool, I'd probably add Alpine as the most universal.

Heavy Artillery (21cm with counter-battery fire):
1. Camouflage
2. Elsa Kloss
3. Artillery Support
4. Lethal Damage

Just stroll up and wait for the enemy to destroy himself by either ground units imploding on the support fire or artillery counter-batterying itself to oblivion. Then move up again, rinse/repeat.

You'll need recon planes and lightning attack tactical bombers to take out recon cars so you camo won't be spotted.

thanks. great new idea and strategy to try. don't you have to position the big Artillery unit in an hex adjacent to an Infantry Unit for Arty Support to work?

City Fighter is in the list that can be acquired by "cheat NewHero", I thought I'd seen it in the offered pool. hey, I need all the help I can get. I have no clue how yall win playing close to Max Difficulty? I have fun using some of the never offered.

Medium artillery (15cm) + Provocator Tank offensive Blitzkrieg configuration
Artillery (8 ammo)
1. Elsa Kloss
2. Lethal Attack
3. Crippling Blow
4. Fast Deployment

Heavy Tank Forward (5-6 ammo)
1. Albert Kerscher (Aggressive Counterattack + Tank Killer)
2. Provocator
3. Rapidfire 1.5x
4. Vigilant (allows you to place the unit anywhere & keep the formation as imaged)

Move forward up to 6 hexes and deploy as seen in the image. Units will beeline to the red hexes to try and attack the unsupported 15cm but will be redirected to the forward heavy tank by the Provocator hero after which the 15cm they intended to attack will offer support fire :).
