Before I proceed, I would like to warn you. If you dislike the use of exploits, do not read on.
The exploit I have found is this:
Garrison units regain full strength after each and every battle (As I'm sure most if not all of you are aware).
Because these units regain full strength, they can be used as "cannon fodder", if you'll pardon the expression. I use this whenever possible. Any unit that I can use to absorb the brunt of the enemy attack before sending in my professional troops, (some garrison units that this is useful with: Legion, Hill-Tribesmen, Hoplites, any other close-order fighting unit) are great for this purpose. I use them especially when the enemy throws two or three armies at a single city in one turn. It usually saves me. I'll send the garrison units first, they deal some damage, and get beat, but now the enemy archers and javelinmen are out of ammo, and the enemy infantry and/or cavalry are weakened, so my main army takes fewer casualties.
I don't know how many of you use this exploit, but I figured I'd share it, just in case.

me also using this tactics,it can hold off siege of enemy large army at least three times.i will form the formation base on garrisoning units,if cavalry,i will choose to place them at left and right bhind my infantry lines and order charge so those cavalry will flanking left and right side of enemy army.mostly,it will defeat enmy faster.

oh??really?then i will take this as challenge, but those AI won't attack me with 3 free huge Roman Legions......i expect to be threaten by AI military strength.iainmcneil wrote:You can't beat 3 free huge Roman Legions
i think there might be a posible way to defeat that 3 free huge Roman Legions,if i flank both left and right side these Roman Legions every time with Spanish Mercenaries, that might be work...(of coz,if there is fourth Legion army,my spanish mercenaries will be outnumbered)
here is my formations,ii will place 2 Spanish mercenaries in column formation at center and 2 spanish mercenaries with block formation at left and right of front line, then 2 spanish mercenaries with block formation at center and 2 spanish mercenaries with column formation at left and right side of rear line,4 spanish mercenaries of rear line will be ordered to fast advanced so they will fill in tothe "hole" of the front line,at the same time 2 spanish merceenaries at both left and right side of rear line will be flanking both side of enemy line, that will create maximum combat effectiveness. Most of the time,i will only loss those cannon fodder then enemy will break and run,coz of their morale can't hold that long.

beside Legionaires are my most favourable unit,so are the spanish mercenaries,i love their white armor(look like those soldier in "Lord of the Ring 3:the return of the king".Too bad there is no Greek swordsmen with large round shield like those in "Alexander".If there is new skins of Greek swordsmen can replace those peltast will be perfect!
