Upcoming Update and Multiplayer Games

Post by pipfromslitherine »

Because of the changes to opfire and other tweaks, you could see some strangeness in turns which go between versions. This could include different combat outcomes, and so could be a little confusing! We wanted to get feedback on whether people would prefer to deal with any oddness, or should we just clean out the current games and everyone goes ahead fresh?

Note we are working on a better multiplayer playback process.

Thanks for your input

Cheers

1, you guys are awesome.

2, I'm fine with clearing out and going fresh, but I don't have any current games, so I guess it's easy for me to say.

Clear them out. The current MP battle format is, for want of a better word, curious. And the opfire enhancements are important.

Go ahead and clear them all out... I don't really see any reason to have these games save when they are done anyway, other than watching the last turn I will never look at them again.

Just to be clear - this would mean deleting all games in progress, not just completed games.

I have a few games going but, not a big deal to start over, especially if the game is getting a patch I can't imagine anyone objecting to that.

We've been thinking about it and as we're not able to contact enough of you to get opinons on this we don't think it's fair to remove all the games. People that havent see this thread would just have all their games disappear with no warning.

You're free to surrender these games if things go really screwy! Apologies for any disruption to your gaming fun!

Hi Pip

How many games would that be and when would you want to do it? Gives an opportunity to possible finish on-going games and deciding if it's worth starting new ones. I'm fine for clearing out my current games - I've only got 2 - and then trying to convince my opponents to restart them :)

EDIT: Just seen on the Matrix forum thread you'd like it to be today ... and when started up BA there it was version 1.3.6 and looks like you've left the on-going games on and I got so distracted by that that I've just burnt my pizza :( Brilliant - apart from the fate of my frazzled pizza - and top marks again for the support we're getting. You don't mess around with pushing these improvement updates out - long may it continue.

Thanks

p.s. the Launcher is still referencing and linked to 1.3.5

great news about the update, but i am done playing mp.

its just too frustrating and it will just not enter my head that an allies tank can down an axis unit in one shot and at very similar positions in reverse it takes 2 shots and... nothing. i have bee playing mp now for close to 20 something games and never won as axis. yeah i know...i might just be a bad gamer, hehe.

anyhow, still a very cool game.

As Axis you need to keep your distance. At short range you lose your advantage. Your Stugs are really nice as their low profile makes them tough to hit so good to lead with them. Make sure the enemy is not getting flank shots on you and your tougher tanks will not get destroyed. Be patient and take your shots. You may only get a 20% kill chance at tange with a Panther but if the enemy has 0% you're on to a winner. Make sure you dont move fast when shooting - accuracy is vital for your heavy tanks as their guns can penetrate anything so hitting the target is all that counts. I think the Germans are harder to play than the Allies as you have fewer units so if you lose one its a big deal. Lose a Sherman and no problem - another one will be along in a minute!

MP is really good fun especially with the changes so stick with it!

I've seen a lot uf complains about the axis, the panzers mainly, and find it very odd and I hope Slitherine doesn't do any hasty tweakings when it comes to the power of tanks.
I have also played 20+ games and I have never lost with the Germans (exept the "Street Fighting" map and that is almost without tanks and unbalanced to boot).
I've lost playing the allies a couple of times, though so in my opinion it's mostly well balanced both scenarios and stats for different units as well.

I wonder if he is using "hunting", i had a similar panic last week about how the game was not balanced, and then i discovered the reason i kept losing is because of the movement penalty. Try using hunting when you are in range of units and you won't have such low percentages anymore.

I just wish I had access to the new units in the editor. They don't show up for me. :(

@ himmelstoss: Well in the game you just surrendered against me you failed to destroy vehicles with Puma's and Stug's that seemed to be using up their full movement allowance. The only vehicle I destroyed was a Mk IV that drove out in front of my Hellcat, side on, when the Hellcat hadn't fired on the previous turn.

Based on just that turn I think that your comments were just a little hasty, but I don't know what the rest of your experiences have been, and I know that I have been frustrated at times too.

I can't see how that can be. Are you looking in the editor in custom Campaigns where you have installed a custom squads file? Because they (of course) won't be listed in your custom squads file, so you won't see them on the list.

I didn't know a custom squads file could affect the editor. I'll check.

Yep, guess that was it. I just added the entries for the new units to my custom squad file and they show up now. I had no idea a custom squad file affected the editor at all.
