Unable to update
When I start BA.exe the configuration window pops up with the "Checking for Updates" text on the left and then nothing, it just sits there with the entire window flashing every few seconds. Running updater.exe does nothing, doesn't even execute (or at least if it does it shuts itself down so quick it doesn't register in the windows process list). There is nothing stopping the executable from connecting wherever it needs to it, or at least nothing I have any control over. This is on Win7 Ultimate x64.

Given how often I see that come up as a response I figured it might come up. I'd hoped the statement:junk2drive wrote:Sounds like you have a firewall preventing the game from connecting to the internet.
would have implied that wasn't the issue (at least for me). But, for the sake of a direct response, there is no firewall preventing those executables from connecting out. There is nothing stopping the executable from connecting wherever it needs to, or at least nothing I have any control over.

I've been working in computer support and security related jobs for over a decade. While I don't claim to be the best in the business, I'm at least competent. I know exactly what could interfere with program connecting to a remote server, and exactly how to stop that from happening. Hence, nothing I have any control over is preventing the game from reaching a remote server. It could easily be some other problem on my end, but it definitely isn't an inability to connect via firewall or other Windows setting.junk2drive wrote:The "nothing I have control over" leads me to believe you may not know what you do have control over. I don't have W7 so can't help you with security settings.
This stuff has happened to me a few times before, but no big deal if you are already updated. You can still play without further issues. Then pretty much stops happening.
In any case, i am sure Slitherine staff (Pip/Ian) will follow up this issue as soon as they read this post. No need to start this "gentlemans war" you are about to start. Support for this game is above the average by far.

The updater and the checker use the same code to connect to the server. It's all HTTP so it seems unlikely that it's not some kind of firewall issue. If you're running a hardware NAT and not any kind of software firewall then fair enough, but I can't think of anything else which would cause that effect.
Has it ever correctly loaded up the launcher information panel when you start the game?
Cheers

As with Shawnt63 it appears to have been fixed for me as well. I went to start up the launcher so I had it in front of me for my reply and it instantly asked me to update as opposed to its old behavior.pipfromslitherine wrote:The updater and the checker use the same code to connect to the server. Game too hard even on easy mode
I like the game concept, but its too hard. It wipes you out with the 3 88's on the mountain. Frustrating and boring to lose every time. Will not play or buy any more of your games. Balance is way off. Allies have no way to beat Tiger plus 3 88's. Will not recommend game.
