Canadians?

Post by canuckgamer »

I noticed in the write up of major and minor countries that there was no mention of Canada. Considering the contribution that Canadian armed forces made in World Worl II I hope this is just a printing oversight.

All Commonwealth forces are in, but I think under the British flag, but Alexander will know better.

That's a good gesture, considering that Canada contributed the equivalent of a single Corps in Europe, that's just a drop in the ocean compared to the massive armies of the Eastern front :) They lost like 42 000 men in the whole war, that's something to think about in comparison of the casualities of the Germans and Russians!

no mention of Canada
Every time I think of Canada in WWII, it only reminds me of either the whole Dieppe catastrophe, or Monte always bitching insults on how he'd rather have Italians on his side instead :P

I know he had no love for them, and I think the feeling was mutual there. However, what Monte said WOULD happen, did in fact HAPPEN, so some respect must be given to him there.

Anyhow, I don't have a problem with UK forces being broken down and distinguished. Though does this mean all the Fins & Croatians and every other axis minor is also broken down into their own nationalities? I can see some problems here, do we have 20 different kinds of infantry units, with all different or the same battle statistics, etc?

Every nation/fraction that fought will be present if we have a scenario for them. Even if that doesn't give any real contribution to fighting force compared to major one it is here for diversity and symbolic. Equipment used can or doesn't need to be unique. It depends. It is hard to make great number of significantly different units.
Fins and Croats concretely will not be present at this point because we will have no scenarios with their engagement.

Obsolete, there are some very interesting books by Terry Copp a Canadian writer who makes a strong case about some of the Monty Hype and how the Canadians actually did, etc, something you might find interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I understand many claim he's very over-rated, and this MAY be true. But the Britts need some sort of hero to look up to, and after O'conner was outplayed by Rommel, there wasn't anyone else to really grab the spot-light. The few that came along were fired before they could do much since Churchill was too desperate for someone to come along and save his failing image in as short a time as possible.
