Instead of a manual
It would be really helpful if Slitherine could group the help pdf pages into one combined pdf file that can be read in an ereader such as the Kindle. It would also make it much simpler to print it out if that was a players preference.

I think that most people would support this, or a Wiki, or an updated help file or whatever, but I think a lot of people are have made this request many times before and so don't of the inclination to write it again.
Slitherine knows about the feelings of many of us on this subject and I'm sure they aren't really interested in hearing it ad infinitum. Personally I think that Slitherine will do something will time allows. At present they are focused on the cash-generating work of delivering new releases and I can't blame them for that.

I have to disagree with that sentiment. I have no issue with them making money but not at the expense of being unable to find the time or resources to provide an adequate and up to date set of rules, in whatever format they choose to deliver it.Morbio wrote: Personally I think that Slitherine will do something will time allows. I won't repeat the very obvious reasons why having those rules is important, perhaps even vital, but they should take a leaf from HPS's book. HPS produce a full, printable manual with each game they produce and they update it, as a matter of routine, each time they bring out a patch or update to the game in question. HPS are probably a much smaller business than Slitherine is, currently.
I am very dissapointed by Slitherines attitude towards this issue and I have to wonder if it is not prompted by a conscious decision on their part to encourage people to purchase the TT rules -which some players have posted that they have done. THis is a PC game and should be fully supported as an entity in it's own right and not an adjunct to the TT system. With four expansions done and a fithh in the pipeline, it is high time that they addressed this issue.
I was tempted not to buy SAS because of this but will definately not buy another expansion until something is done.

This manual, like most, sucks. The game is great. Why such an awful manual to go with it?
The game does NOT play like the miniatures game thus you need to explain to the customer how combat works IN DETAIL. And some folks may not have the miniature rules (I buy everything FoG including the REN books).
Please - a better manual. You have had the time too.

Good idea! Since Slitherine and Hexwar don't have the time nor resources to tackle this job, why don't those of you with the talent and time get together and work out a useful manual that can be submited for editing and approval. This is the only way that we will ever see an updated and accurate manual. I'm sure the powers that be would welcome this and offer input since it would take the burden off their shoulders.Old_Warrior wrote:I am a Tech Writer - contact me if you want help in putting together something professional.

I learnt the game by simply playing around with it, but now and again the lack of a manual really hurts. Sometimes I just want to know a specific detail, like how mixed infantry is handled, and I just can't find it in the in-game help. The in-game help feature even has links that go to pages that don't exist...
I thought the current system explained most stuff decently back when i bought the game early december. But that may have been due to me just having learnt Tin soldiers JC. It did leave a few question marks though. On top of that i was a tad annoyed with the lack of a printed manual. That was 85% (could have been 86%) of the reason i paid extra for shipping and the discs.
