Needed: adding the heroes attributes to unit stats

Post by Ryben »

When a unit gets a hero, he adds some extra values to attack, defence, initiative and such. Great.

But, since there´s no icon to mark that a unit has a hero (besides the one that appears on deployment screen) and, most important, the bonus values doesn´t seem to be added (at least visually) on the unit stats, i found quite easy to lose track of the advantages a hero is currently giving to the unit.

I think the game needs both an icon to notify a hero is present and also resalting the bonus attributes. It could be as simple as adding the bonus to the base value and mark it in green, for example. That means it´s an altered attribute due the presence of a hero in the unit.

As a current alternative, however, it is possible to view these stats and the effects they are having in the expanded combat log.
Hot key 'L', which you can recall after any combat engagement to review the details of the last combat engagement.

Indeed, although i would like to take a look at the map and know which of my five identical PanzerIV units is the one who has more initiative and which is excellent in defence...without giving them silly names.

At least add the values to the stats... :)

hehe, yea, changing the name is about the best I've found so far too - I cram as many stats into it as I can :) Or I'll come up with oddball name like "speedy Bob" to remind me the unit has +1 movement.

Which is a problem with MP because then your opponent knows which units to target! :)

That's the least of our worries.

Right now Allies do not get Hero's.

Plus it has to be a very long game or hundreds of units to gain a hero.

Have yet to see one in a 36 turn game with allot of units.

There's something with Heroes that can be improved, imho.

It would be great that once units had reached the three max heroes, it still checks to gain heroes, and if they gain one wich they already owns, but with better stats, the unit drops the worst and gains the best.

Say, my unit has +1 spotting, +2 Attack, +1 Defence. After one brilliant combat, it checks and gains a Heroe with + 1 Defence: nothing happens. After a while, it checks again and gains a +3 Attack Heroe, replacing the old +2 Attack with the new and better +3 Attack. The resulting unit bonus would be +1 spotting, +3 Attack, +1 Defence then.

I don't know if this would make units excesively powerfull, but this way it would avoid some silly Heroes bonus like three +1 Attack in the same unit, for example.

Or maybe even have the heroes get more heroey after time.... say a +1 hero can become a +3 hero.

could even start all hero's at +1 and make them work thier way up the hard way :)

Or give the players the ability of managing (droping) heroes, freeing one slot in the hope of gaining a better stats heroe later...

Or they could die and open a slot for a new hero to be promoted later.
This could make sense for longer campaigns.

bonus from heros should be visible.

maybe move them to other unit????...

maybe they can let say advance from +1 to +2 - promote

in that case option why not wounded or die...
But what about balance

I don't care to micro-manage heroes, but I certainly want a notation telling me which unit has heroes, perhaps a star next to unit strength will do.
Going through all my units to see which has heroes is pretty annoying.

If you press F6 to see the unit list there is a little icon (a helmeted head) that denotes a hero, but it is very hard to see.

Not only that but the unit list detracts from the game and makes the map smaller.

A player should be able to use the full map and get all the information they need from the map. Then they can use hot keys without opening up all those obtrusive menus.

That unit list would be a good place to have a "hover mouse pop-up" with the hero's stats. Like it is now with the units experience stars. Hover the mouse on the stars and their experience number pops up.

Yes, definitely! Thanks, Ryben. Maybe color the stat a different color in the information panel so we know it is not just a base level stat.

True, but prefer to see it on the tactical map. Make it accessible.

I also think it would be great to have both an icon to notify a hero and adding the bonus value to the attributes!
