Crusades
Hi, I have yet another Game Idea for you guys at Slitherine: The Crusades.
This is a topic that has not been covered very much.
Medieval: Total War had crusades in it, but they were neither the point of the game, nor very well done, either.
Stronghold: Crusader was all about crusades, but lacked a strategic element beyond: "Build up my resources, attack the other guy's castle, and I win".
Crusader Kings is the best crusader game so far, IMHO, but is still lacking. It was more like "Sim Monarch" but with crusades.
If Slitherine could make a crusader game that focused on the different troop types, like Feudal Sergeants, Templar Knights, Hospitallers, Saracens, etc. I think that would do quite well.
There could be different scenarios, such as:
The 1st Crusade - If the player chooses to play as the crusaders, he starts out with no territory, but a good sized army, and has to conquer Antioch, Edessa, Tyre, Jerusalem, and Ascalon to win the scenario.
The Kingdom of Jerusalem - This scenario could have all four states in "Outremer", The Kingdom of Jerusalem, The County of Tripoli, the Principality of Antioch, and the County of Edessa. These four states would be in a "locked" alliance, in the sense that they will never attack each other, and if their relations are high enough with each other, will send supplies to each other. If relations are really high, they might even give military support to each other, provided that they can spare the manpower.
And there are plenty of other possible scenarios, too.
Let me know what you guys think of this.

Knights of Honor has crusades as well and is an amazing game.

I know there was also a RTS game on that subject...i'll check if i can find it.
I do have a very light wargame (TBS) called "The Crusades" which was funny for some time...
Note...i wouldn't mind if Slitherine did something on that subject but i've been playing KoH for 2 years now and i still enjoy it a lot...i'd rather have Legion II, something in America (Maya, Azteques...), China, Japan or something very new like India (never done before

I own KOH and I do love playing it. However, I feel the Crusades were poorly modeled (or did they fix that in the last patch?). However, I love everything else about the game.anguille wrote:Knights of Honor has crusades as well and is an amazing game.

Ditto, except the "tactical" battles, which were a messy Age of empires pastiche with morale thrown in...and the suicidal AI...in fact, I ended up selling the gamedithyrambos wrote:I own KOH and I do love playing it. The AI was pretty bad (continious frontal charges against archers on a hill), but I wouldn't call it AoEish. Flanking, etc, did matter.duncan wrote:Ditto, except the "tactical" battles, which were a messy Age of empires pastiche with morale thrown in...and the suicidal AI...in fact, I ended up selling the gamedithyrambos wrote:I own KOH and I do love playing it. KOH is Knights Of Honor, and it's worth buying specially now that you can get it cheaper. But be warned, these are not your good ole RTW real time battles...but the rest of the game is way better than RTW.SPQR wrote:KOH is that knights of honor and if so is it worth buying the game.
