Ardennes...victory?

Post by Ryben »

I´ve managed to get a victory in Ardennes scenario and, while i captured Antwerp, in the next scenario (Berlin) i am told that it was useless and find myself defending against both US/UK and the Soviet steamroller (you have to stay alive for 30 turns, an impossible task).

What a letdown! I was expecting this kind of final scenario if he Ardennes offensive was unsuccesful but even i manage to achieve what historically Germans couldn´t in the end it doesn´t change nothing. :(

Sometimes PC sticks too close to history and doesn´t allow for needed "what if?" scenarios. This also happened in the next scenario after Stalingrad where you are told that the city had just fallen after you brilliantly captured it just minutes before.

What´s the point in getting victories if you are going to lose in the end unless you get brilliant victories one after the other? There must be an intermediate point between fantasy scenarios (USA invasion) and the historically correct fall of Germany.

If you get a brilliant victory in Wacht Am Rhein, the Western Allies sue for peace. Like many scenarios, a brilliant victory is required to change history.

What you are asking for is another, more deep and complex, campaign.

Why don't you create it for us? :)

Achieving decisive victory in berlin is not impossible. just fall back all of your units around berlin and bridges (your units in the US section also), buy plenty of AA and exploit AI mistakes when it moves to river hexes. achieving decisive victory is still a problem for me on field marshal.
