Building a Team

Post by Xerkis »

By what I gather from mostly the photos and descriptions on the website, you can build a team (or squad) and shape them the way you wish. Weapons, uniforms, etc.

Can these newly built teams then be saved and reused in other scenarios / campaigns – or do you have to rebuild the team each time you start a new game?

Hi Xerkis!

The newly built teams can indeed be saved and reused. Also the game comes with a couple already designed Forces so if you wanna try the game before you build your first force you can use one of the standard forces.

You build and save the Force(Team/Squad) in our Forcebuilder. After you save a force it will appear in-game in a list which you chose your force from before every game. So it is even possible to have several forces saved at any given time.

Also you can modify your forces in-between games. You just open the Force you want to edit and edit it in the Forcebuilder.

If your playing against the Ai you can also choose which force the Ai shall use. So if you want a rifle battle with the Ai you can quickly build an rifle force and challenge the Ai with it. The Ai changes its strategy depending on what units it got.

My second post here goes into depth which choices the Forcebuilder gives you: http://teamassault-game.com/forum/viewt ... p?f=9&t=14

I think I could easily spend all my time having fun with the force builder and never get to the game.
:D

It sounds fantastic!!!

Haha yhea I am the same, I think the Forcebuilder is as much fun as the game. The Optimizing Forces, the testing new things etc. We have had tournaments here on ZEAL to make everyone feel the game and before one of those I normally build 3-4 Forces just because I like thinking on how a game will look like with every force.

When you play in tournaments, is there a way to keep the experence a squad may gain in the firefight (battles), in other words:
1. Would a squad improve over time from say a green squad of recruits to a crack fighting force like SAS or the Waffen SS?
2. Does experence play a role in squad development or is it just a concept?
3. Would the player just build a force they want to use?

I do like the idea of keeping a squad and watching it improve over time via battle experence but it would also have a down side, such as battle fatigue (the number and type of battle fought, lost of squad members etc). Just ideas but you have to dream.

1) Perhaps in the Campaign Mode – but even that is up in the air at this point in time. But definitely not in the Single “Skirmish” Mode.
2) Do you mean like a soldier with an M1 can hit his target easier after he has used it over time? I don’t believe it does.
3) You can build anything you want to. Obviously you are limited to the weapons, uniforms, etc. that are within the game. However, you can make them in any combination and a Squad can be from 2 to 8 men in size. There is a cost to everything though; so that powerhouse squad might never see the battle field because he is too expensive to purchase.

What Xerkis said :)

And to clarify; no, there's no experience gain in the game at the moment. You can make your squads war veterans etc when building them in the force builder (increasing the squad's cost of course), but no mid-combat promotions.

Hhmmmm.......... I guess that is what that does. Just the way it is incorporated in to the game, I somewhat never thought of it that way.

I think being able to see conscripts become vets in campaign mode will be a huge request.

I find I am mainly curious about the forcebuilder. I have tried to figure what I can from the videos and screenshots, but the math never seems to work out, so there is something I am missing.

Not sure what you mean. What is it you think you are missing?

You see a cost of each squad member in the screenshot, but when you backwards engineer and subtract cost of weapon, grenades, uniform your still left with 45-60 cr unaccounted for.

Good catch. Never noticed that before.

I just made the cheapest squad you can make and there was 100 CR unaccounted for.
:?

Laxen (or anyone else at Zeal) is there a 100 CR cost just for a squad's existence?

There is a 100CR base cost for each squad in a force, and the two starting soldiers are 50CR each which make it 200CR in total. The base cost is there to encourage players to make bigger squads, thous even out the base cost.

Yup, what tessm said. If there was no base cost for squads, it was almost always better to go for very many 2 man squads instead of larger squads because of several reasons. The lowered cost I believe can be narratively justified with the organisational and logistical problems of having too many squads in war; its easier for a commander to organise and order fewer squads with more members around then a bunch of independent/paired up soldiers.

This was kind of answered above – and sort of by me.

But I just want some clarification on this.

When you build your own forces in Force Builder – do you need to do anything to be able to use them in Multi Player? Like send the force to your opponent.
:?

also, is it just the “tat” file that you would need to send to someone if they want to use your force in their own single player skirmishes?

You don't have to do anything special to be able to use your force in Multiplayer. But if you want to share your force, you should only be needing to send the .tat-file. The file should be placed in My Documents/My Games/TA/Teams.
