Absolutely yes.

Experience, medals, and heroes will all have new mechanisms to compensate for a vastly longer overall campaign.
This is actually one of the more important items we need to test. Are people comfortable with slower rates of acquiring heroes and medals, to the point where it may take multiple DLCs worth of content to achieve a unit with a full compliment of three heroes?
In an expanded campaign, I think its imperative you slow the rate of acquiring medals/heroes IF the only way of acquiring them is via kills. Tracking of different stats would be a step forward into allowing unique modifications to the game.

Well, maybe the best way to implement Heroes in an expanded campaign is to base it on Experience instead of Kills and then slow the rate that XP is earned. XP would be a good "measuring stick" for awarding Heroes since so more goes into it besides just kills. So, for example, you get your first Hero randomly between 50 and 150XP. You get the second Hero randomly between 150 and 300XP and then the final Hero randomly between 300 and 500XP. Medals could also be based on XP instead of Kills:

Iron Cross 2nd Class (50XP)
Iron Cross 1st Class (100XP)
Knight's Cross (150XP)
Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves (200XP)
Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords (300XP)
Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds (400XP)
Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds (500XP)

Would you lose them if the unit's experience dropped below the threshold i.e. through using regular replacements instead of elite?

That's a good point and one I hadn't thought about. I'd say, "no", you keep the medal and/or hero when dropping below a threshold, but it just makes it that much harder to attain the next hero/medal if you dilute the experience with regular replacements. It would add another layer of strategy on when to use elite or regular replacements and could be a good incentive for players to want to use elite more often.

Yea $5 for this is the opposite of absurd. It is reasonable, and given the quality of the game, I will insta-buy when released.

Enjoy the fruits of capitalism (incredibly they are looking to make money off this game...)

$5 for one scenario is absurd... but that's not what we're offering. Each DLC has 14 scenarios.

To put it in relative terms. Currently, Panzer Corps has 26 campaign scenarios. Maximum campaign length (1939 to USA) is 15 scenarios.
Each DLC has roughly 14 scenarios(some might have even more in the future). Maximum DLC campaign length is 10 historical scenarios, with one bonus scenario, so 11.

So each DLC is comparable in length to the current campaign, but these campaigns are extra special because you can string the DLC campaigns together to potentially create one giant super campaign with a complete length of 70+ scenarios, and a total scenario count (branching) of probably over 100 scenarios.

The only thing absurd about that is the sheer amount of content that is going to be eventually created, heh.

This is the first time i think that DLC makes sense. Thank you for this wonderful announcement. I hope they are as great as the main game, which is unfortunately too short.

We know a lot of people wanted more content and unless there is some way to generate revenue from it the hard reality is there is no way the development team will allocate resrouces to it. Would you like to work for free :)?

We think we've priced it very fairly but there will always be people who disagree and that's their right. We don't have to agree with them!

As it should be.
I dont want to have to choose which Panzer Corps game I want to play. I want to start Panzer Corps and then choose the campaign I want to play.

MikeAP wrote:$5 for a single campaign?
Should divide the value in £€$ for the amount of hours you played.
How much for hour?

Great news.

I'll buy all the PC DLC campaings for sure!

BTW what about the "old" sugestion about gaining prestige for destroying enemy units? Will it be done in the future?

Best regards

Seems like pretty good value to me, I'm a definite sale
I'm very glad to see some in depth campaigning for the different fronts in Panzer Corps. It should be much better than the standard one scenario per country approach of the current campaign, which lacks focus. The game engine is really made for this sort of thing.

Speaking of heroes...

Any chance that we could see an icon to denote which units have heroes attached?

Is there going to be any changes in the units stats or adding new units or it is just maps?

We are trying to separate out features from content. The DLC packs are purely new maps and campaigns. Features will be rolled out in patches. As someone above suggested our plan is to keep a single version of Panzer Corps that anyone who updates to the latest version will have. Then all you have to do is choose which campaign to play. You may not have all of the campaigns if you have not purchased all the DLC but you would have the same game version with all the features.

We also plan a different level of additional content called an expansion. This again will keep the core code features the same but add a lot more units, terrain types etc to cover a different theatre. It will have a higher price tag to cover the higher development costs and more extensive content updates. More details on this soon.

For example, for the later DLC packs we have found we need some more Soviet units to cover the eastern front in more detail. These units will be included in a patch that everyone will get for free. However these units will not appear for most users initially as they have no maps that make use of them. The later DLC packs will make use of the new units. Map designers will also be able to make use of the new units and anyone will be able to play them. Having said that we may need to limit the use of new units to an expansion if we add an entirely new theatre such as Pacific/Africa etc, but units slotting in to an existing theatre you own will be free.

So in summary what we plan is:
DLC - maps and campaigns using the core content that is already available. The Grand campaigns are in this categroy.
Expansions - new content taking the game to new theatres. We have not announced any expansions yet but will do soon!

That's probably just confused the issue :)

On the contraty iainmcneil, I think you'll find that everything you've described will sit well with most of your customer base. I for one am very happy that the basic game seems to have been designed with this kind of versatility in mind. It's only fair you get to be compensated for extra stuff.

If the dlc concept did NOT work, no one would be using it.

Thus, there is no valid argument for avoiding using it.

It's not like they are offering a different set of icons and nothing else but a different set of icons. It's not like you are spending 5 bucks so your MMO character can walk around in a limited edition t shirt.

I will even go so far as to say maybe THIS idea (the dlc) might be a reasonable way to test the Steam waters. Offer a dlc purchase as a means to generating some exposure and not putting a lot of cash at risk doing so.

Just a thought.

Can any of you guys give us some idea of how the campaign tree will work in these expanded campaigns? For example, I didn't see any Sealion battles listed in the 1940 pack.

My pure guess is once you complete the dlc campaign and choose the option to carry your core over the main campain it will some how splice you into the apropriate battle in the main campain..... something like only modest victories in the French expansion, go to Russia, decisive: Sealion

The campaign will follow a more historical path generally. There will be fluctuations within a DLC but you will end each DLC at a historical point so Sealion won't be part of the new Grand Campaign.

I have to admit, my first reaction to this statement is one of disappointment. Being able to change history is really one of the most exciting things about Panzer Corps, and adds to it's replayability, that is the fact that your performance will often result in your campaign going in very different directions.

Then again, following a more historical path has it's merits, especially in ensuring a longer campaign. But I really would appreciate the option to diverge at least to the already existing Sealion scenario if you score enough decisive victories in the expanded French campaign in a manner that GrayMouser has suggested.
