My CEaW game is the Spanish version distributed by Friendware.

I think the issue was that you installed GSv2.00 over GSv1.07. I highly recommend that folks uninstall GSv1.07 first. While that will help folks who haven't installed GSv2.00 yet that it doesn't help you.

Based on the error messages I think the issue lies with some GSv1.07 legacy scenario files that are now in your GSv2.00 install and shouldn't be. Let's try this. In your install, GS v2.00 will be located in the Grand Strategy Mod subfolder of your CEaW vanilla game install. When you open that folder you will see several subfolders including data. Open that folder and you should see another subfolder called scenario. That is, open the *\Grand Strategy Mod\data\scenario folder. In that folder you will see several scenario files (e.g., 1939.scn, 1940.scn, ect. & 1939ai.scn, 1940ai.scn, etc.) The *ai.scn scenario files are left over from your GSv1.07 install and will cause the game to crash on startup. Delete all *ai.scn files and try restrating GSv2.00 again.

Hey, it works, hurraaayyyy!! :D

Thank you very much, rkr1958 !

Yes, you were right: I installed GS version 2.0 over GS version 1.07 (I was confused with the version of CEaW, which is 1.12).
Now, everything is working fine.
Thanks again!

I downloaded v 2.0 over v1.02 and it crashes on take off. Do I have to install all the previous versions or am I facing a different problem?

You should update your basic CeaW to v1.12. If you have installed earlier versions of GS (like v1.06) then you need to uninstall them. Once you're down to basic v1.12 then you can install GS v2.0.

I'm not sure what you mean about v1.02. Is it GS v1.02 then it needs to be uninstalled. If it's basic CeaW v1.02 then you're running on a very old version. Then you must go to your vendor site and upgrade to CeaW v1.12 first (v1.06 on the MAC).

By having a very old version you might be missing some crucial files required by GS v2.0. Remember that GS v2.0 can't be run by itself. It requires CeaW v1.12 already installed since some files are common.

As I said before, I misunderstood between GAME VERSION, in one hand, and the MOD Grand Strategy., in the other hand. Maybe, some people are confused with this like I was...

Before installing MOD Grand Strategy version 2.0, you must have installed in your PC:

1- the GAME CEaW version 1.12,

2- and MOD G.S. version 1.07, too.

After that, you must do what rkr1958 said and the game will be working perfectly!

Don't install GSv1.07 if you have not already. GSv2.00 will install and work just fine over the base game, CEaW 1.12 Gold or CEaW 1.12 MH versions. However; if you have happened to install GSv2.00 over the top of GSv1.07 (or v1.06) then what I suggested above will work.

I gave up trying to get CEaW GC 2 working over the various earlier versions, so I purchase version 2.0 as a stand alone and downloaded it as a separate and new game. It does not work when I try to launch the game (as noted in earlier posts in this threat). I have just checked the GS Mod\data\scenario folder as recommended. There is no *ai.scn file - only other files *1939.sc et al.

Those ai.scn files are just the same as other scenarios but Switzerland is pro Axis so the idiotic AI won't declare war on Switzerland if it's playing as the Axis.

So let me understand. You installed CEaW Military Edition? Then you ran the GSv2.00 installer? And, now GSv2.00 won't run properly?

IF SO, then in you My Documents folder (e.g., C:\My Documents) you should see a folder named
CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0 (i.e., D:\My Documents\CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0). Delete the folder CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0 and all its contents and restart GS.

IF NOT, please explain your installation configuration and we'll go from there.

There appears to be no file called "CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0". I've spent about 12 hours trying to get the game working and don't understand why it has to be so difficult. When I purchased the game for a second time hoping that the latest version would be a stand alone version and work properly, I followed all of the installation instructions, step by step. Furthermore, I have downloaded the game several times and started the installation process from the beginning but with no success.

Moving forward, the key is to ensure that when a stand alone game is sold it should be easy to install and operate properly - including with no interference from previous versions.

Sorry - I was really excited about the latest version of the game and have been a fan of earlier versions of this game for years. But just cannot spend more time on the impenetrable installation process for this game - signing off..........

I'm sorry you're having problems and certainly can understand why you're frustrated. I know this doesn't help your given the hours you've spent but most people install without issue and those few that do have issues we generally can help work through them in a short time. If you like I can try to help you with getting your installation working. It really shouldn't take long once we figure out the specifics of your installation; which generally is the time consuming part.

1. In your My Documents folder do you see in any folders named CEAW Grand Strategy or CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0? If so, delete them and their contents.

2. What version of CEaW did you install?

3. Have you installed any previous versions?

4. If so, did you uninstall them before installing the latest version of CEaW?

5. Have you previously installed any version 1 of GS? If so, did you uninstall?

6. Where did you install CEaW to?

7. When you install GS 2.0 do you point it to location you installed CEaW to?

8. What happens when you try to run GS? Do you get any error messages?

Thank you for the prompt and detailed reply. In response, I deleted all previous versions of the game and downloaded CEaW 2.0 again from Slitherine. Then launched the game. Same problem - when I double click the game I get the white box and when I click "OK" the box disappears and nothing happens - the game does not load or work.

In response to your specific questions - see below:

1. In your My Documents folder do you see in any folders named CEAW Grand Strategy or CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0? If so, delete them and their contents. Checked and deleted

2. What version of CEaW did you install? CEaW 2.0

3. Have you installed any previous versions? Yes several versions - but I deleted all of these prior to downloading and launching 2.0

4. If so, did you uninstall them before installing the latest version of CEaW? Yes

5. Have you previously installed any version 1 of GS? If so, did you uninstall? Yes

6. Where did you install CEaW to? Saved in a sub-directory 'Matrix Games' - with other games I have purchased from Slitherine

7. When you install GS 2.0 do you point it to location you installed CEaW to? Yes - Matrix games

8. What happens when you try to run GS? Do you get any error messages? No error message - the box simply disappears.

The GS 2.0 installer needs to be pointed inside the CEaW directory. It sounds like maybe you're pointing to the one above it.

See the thread referenced below for how to verify your installation.

viewtopic.php?p=229170#229170

Given that you've uninstalled and delete all previous installations and CEaW/GS documents what you describe sounds like GS 2.0 is NOT installing inside of the CEaW directory.
