Ruthless Romans won't start

We just purchased the game for xmas and are also having trouble, son is very disappointed.

It has installed ok but wont start. Downloaded directx during installation.

Saw you mentioned above about updating graphics card drivers. I'm not big on the technical side of things, can you advise how I would go about that?

That said we have had no trouble with any other games or software. Its a pc running windows xp with 2gb ram. You say there has only been a tiny number of reported errors so wont be a recall but given the 4000+ views of this thread I think its fair to say quite a lot of people are having problems with this game. Its pretty disappointing and I think the company should take some responsibility as people are still handing over their money for this game.
