Artillery protection

Post by 2010sjones2010 »

In the initial DLC's I could happily advance my troops with my artillery sat right behind them and the Allies wouldn't dare to attack me. However in the new '42 DLC the Russians dont care!! Is this because I am using the wrong artillery to defend my units? I mainly use the Sturmpanzer along with the 21cm Mrs 18 and the Wurfrahmen 40. :?:

Also why do artillery units only return fire once when protecting a unit ??? ie allied infantry attacks my infantry unit which has an artillery unit behind it with a range above one - it only fires a protection shot once. Then when another allied unit attacks the same unit again, the artillery unit will not lay down a defensive shot again even though it still has enough ammo. This has annoyed me throughout all the games because artillery units should keep firing until they run out of ammo.

Hmm, your Artillery should still be defending adjacent units, assuming they have ammunition and are not fully suppressed, every time an attack occurs. Are you sure they werent suppressed by enemy artillery first?

I dont use sturm's as late as '42, but the AI generally picks fights it has the upper hand in (Tho, not always..).

I have done some further investigation and I was wrong to say that the artillery only fires once when attacked. I was attacked three times and the artillery unit returned fire each time. The reason I thought they didnt must have been because during a multiple attacks the artillery unit must have been suppressed at some point.

As far as the issue with being attacked with artillery support, this definitely is happening a great deal more. I have tried every artillery unit available and the Russians still attack my protected units at will.

The reason I keep the Sturmpanzers is they are the only unit that can travel and fire in one go with a range of three. Hopefully I will be able to upgrade them cheaply to the SIG 38t M later in the series. However I thought that about the strategic bombers as I had 3 HE 111 H2 with the hope I could upgrade to the awesome HE177 A but I was charged a small fortune.

The best bit of artillery I have currently is a captured Russian 47th SUI 22 r - a cracking piece of kit :D

Those Sturmpanzers are cheesy. I hope they get nerfed, honestly. Did they even actually exist? I've never heard of them outside Panzer Corps or Panzer General.

I don't think there is a patch coming any time soon, and it may not nerf this unit. But you can nerf it yourself by changing the equipment file.

While they look awkward, but the firepower they gave was tremendous. They were the grandfather of the Grille, the father of the Hummel and the Brumbar. They may not look like much, but they were highly valuable mobile artillery that did not have to be towed or set up. Particularly valuable to mobile Panzer troops.
Old Timer Panzer General fan. Maybe a Volksturm soldier now. Did they let Volksturm drive Panzers?

Huh, thanks. So it was actually a poor performing short barreled artillery gun with minimal range. I wonder how it ended up as a long range artillery piece in PG and PC?

Gameplay trampled over History in a very unkind way.

If you like them you can upload the AA and AT mod.
