Unit name generator
I have created an unit name generator for Panzer Corps:
http://panzercorps.worldwar2.ro/unit_name_generator.php
How to use:
When starting a new campaign click on Generate new key. Copy and save the key to a text file on your computer, so that whenever you need to add new names, you can enter your session key. Then select the unit class and click Generate to generate a random name. The last generated name will appear in red.
All names are unique. The units are assumed to be battalions. Example of unit names:
II/FJR.5 (2nd battalion, 5th fallschirmjager regiment)
III/ShutzR.99 (3rd battalion, 99th infantry regiment)
AufkAbt.21 (21st reconnaisance battalion)
IV/KG.1 (4th group of 1st strategic bomber flotilla)
All numbers are in a selected range of reasonable historical accuracy. Number of battalions are also historical accurate per type of regiment.
While the first name is fully random, the second name from the same class will fill the next free battalion slot for the regiment until all the regiment units are complete. Then a new regiment will be generated. For example, for infantry regiment with three battalions:
1st infantry unit: II/ShutzR.17
2nd infantry unit: I/ShutzR.17
3rd infantry unit: III/ShutzR.17
4th infantry unit: III/ShutzR.45
and so on...

Re: Unit name generator
It is work. Thx.

Re: Unit name generator
First time you use the application you must generate a key. This is a kind of log in information so you can enter the key later and continue to add units.huertgenwald wrote:All i get is a message "Invalid key".

Re: Unit name generator
However, very soon (tomorrow) I'll launch a better application, in the style of Allied General dossier, so you can keep track of your units and battles.

Firefox : works
Thx, dragos

Re: Unit name generator
hey dragos, the dossier sounds great
now if you could add a little tally counter of kills as you play per scenario like PG.....you would make my day!!!!!!!!!

Re: Unit name generator
Hmmm, no problems with IE9 here. Are you sure you aren't copy-pasting the key with some trailing spaces?huertgenwald wrote:Made a test with IE9 and Firefox:

Dossier can be accessed now. About the number of kills per scenario, it would require to calculate it yourself at the end of each scenario by subtracting the totals from the previous scenario and then entering them manually for each unit class. Are you sure it's worth the effort?huertgenwald wrote:hey dragos, the dossier sounds great now if you could add a little tally counter of kills as you play per scenario like PG.....you would make my day!!!!!!!!!
Re: Unit name generator
was thinking of those scenarios where one has to destroy a certain amount of transports, ships, etc. I always lose track while in the heat of game play and stopping to back track a save game, I lose my initial drive.Are you sure it's worth the effort?
Re: Unit name generator
I've been using your unit name generator and would like to say thank you.
I do have a couple of suggestions, if you are willing to read them:
1 - After a couple dozen units the list gets too big, would it be possible to have several columns of unit designators instead of just one? Maybe separate columns for each unit type?
2 - Is it possible to add independent battalions for other unit types? I like to name, and use, some of my units (rocket artillery, self-propelled artillery, etc...) as independent battalions, for instance Werfer-Abteilung 56 or WerferAbt.56.
That's it. I did say it was a couple of suggestions, didn't I?
Anyway, it's not a big deal. Your unit name generator is quite good and usable as it is.
Thanks a lot for your efforts.

Re: Unit name generator
I liked this one very much. Is it just me its down for or is it permanently gone? Anyway, thank you for your work Dragos!
Re: Unit name generator
The site is up. I just tried it - thanks Dragos! This is an excellent idea.

Re: Unit name generator
@dragos, I like the idea but find the names or rather the abreviations to be mostly incorrect. Having served in the German military and knowing a bit about current and historic abreviations I suggest the following changes:
II/SchutzR.29 -> II/SchtzR 29
I/GebjR.193 -> I/GebJgR 193
II/FJR.1 -> II/FsJgR 1
PiBat.21 -> PioBtl 21
II/PzGrR.15 -> II/PzGrenR 15
AufkAbt.26 -> AufklAbt 26
II/PzR.12 -> II/PzR 12
III/ArtR.95 -> III/ArtR 95
PzjgAbt.33 -> PzJgAbt 33
IV/FlakR.39 -> IV/FlakR 39
I/JG.65 -> I/JG 65
III/SG.37 -> III/SG 37
I/KG.11 -> I/KG 11
StugAbt.135 -> StuGAbt 135
As for the SE units;
I/SSPzR.2 -> I/SS PzR 2 (leave a gap between the unit and the "SS")
II/SchutzR.29 -> II/SchtzR 29
I/GebjR.193 -> I/GebJgR 193
II/FJR.1 -> II/FsJgR 1
PiBat.21 -> PioBtl 21
II/PzGrR.15 -> II/PzGrenR 15
AufkAbt.26 -> AufklAbt 26
II/PzR.12 -> II/PzR 12
III/ArtR.95 -> III/ArtR 95
PzjgAbt.33 -> PzJgAbt 33
IV/FlakR.39 -> IV/FlakR 39
I/JG.65 -> I/JG 65
III/SG.37 -> III/SG 37
I/KG.11 -> I/KG 11
StugAbt.135 -> StuGAbt 135
As for the SE units;
I/SSPzR.2 -> I/SS PzR 2 (leave a gap between the unit and the "SS")

Re: Unit name generator
Btw, maybe offtopic but... @devs: Couldn't you provide us with a way to modify the ingame name generator to do this here? The current ingame names are a bit of a letdown

Re: Unit name generator
You can change any name of any unit at any time pressing Alt+N. So total freedom for every flavour.
On a side note we as developers, could never use eg. historic names like:

That would mean a ban in Germany and other European countries. We leave this to the modding community...I/SSPzR.2 -> I/SS PzR 2 (leave a gap between the unit and the "SS")
