Error: Could not find the Language Files!

All seemed ok installing then this message?? Installed didn't play, downloaded patch 1.04b ... installed tried to play then got this error message... used all the default file settings....

Hmmm I downloaded patch 1.02 and game came up.... is 1.04b not the latest?

installed 1.02 then reinstallled 1.04b then ok.......

Ok glad it worked! It sounds like it just installed badly the first time and was missing some files.

I get this error when I tried to install the game on a Vista Acer laptop. I gave up and just uninstalled the game. I'm sure there is a workaround but I decided to install the game on my XP desktop instead.

I also got an error message about not finding language files after installing 1.04. Tried repeatedly but no luck. Went back to 1.00. Any advice?

If you have a problem can you let us know if it is with the Slitherine or Matrix version, your operating system and language. Make sure you get the patch for your version.

The language file not found error seems to be linked with a bad installation. can you just try installing the patch again.

I have bought the game today (from Slitherine) and patched to version 1.04 and have exactly the same problem. I have obviusly checked the patch was for Slitherine's, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the game and the patch and the problem is still there.

I have read some people solved the problem installing first 1.02 and then 1.04, where can I get 1.02?

Commander Europe at War is 1.02 when you buy it, check the down bottom corner in main menu it should say

"v1.02"

** Update

I have unistalled the game through the control panel, cleaned the registry downloaded again the patch..... after installing the game I make sure it says v1.00 and not 1.20, I install the patch, try the game and same error....

As I dindt find it here I looked for patch v1.2 in internet and I luckily found it. I installed it and after it the 1.4 version and the problem was solved.

You should take care of this matter or other buyers will find the same problem. The link provided when you buy the game donwloads v1.00 and it seems you need v1.2 before installing v1.4

That is odd, the game purchased should be the 1.02 version. Another question I have, those who had 1.00 and could not update to 1.04, did you pick English language in the language selection popup and also did you have in the data/ folder the following files as a minimum

general.txt
unit.txt
leader.txt
technology.txt
terrain.txt

unit_eng.txt
leader_eng.txt
technology_eng.txt
terrain_eng.txt

message_eng.txt

or were any of those missing?

Well, as I have already updated I really dont know whether those files where missing but in v1.00 the game worked fine, after updating to 1.40 no matter which language you chose it would give you back the same error message. I tried modifing the file settings.txt (changing language 0 to language 1) and executing the game afterwards and it just did nothing, no errors and no game either

The only way it worked was patching with 1.20 before 1.40

Anyone from Slitherine to answer the question?

I have the same problem - purchased a game recently (v.1.00) and after upgrade it stopped working. It's 2 weeks since the problem was identified and support doesn't seem to bother responding.

Please fix the 1.04 patch to work with 1.00 version or post a 1.2 in your download seciton.

I bought my version from you and it was 1.00 (even though the download was a week ago). I'm running it on XP.

Update:
Patching the game to v.1.02 solves the problem. Here's the link for download:
